Males calling their father "daddy"

Is it weird? It is for me. A dude on my Facebook (trashy, I know) makes a lot of posts referring to his father as daddy, like "going fishing with daddy!". He is over 30 if that helps.

I think that is an old Southern thing. I don't notice it as much with younger generations.
Also, I think still calling/being called by the juvenile form of the name ("Jimmy" vs "Jim", "Bobby vs "Bob") as an adult tends to happen more in the South, also.

I don't. But I don't find it strange that some do. People often have names for their parents that just get stuck over time, and all the members of the household use it.

The older I get, the more I realize that if it does not directly effect me I could truly care less.

You're not from the South if that's weird to you.

Sorry you were touched by your daddy and can't hear yourself say that without triggering PTSD

My aunt and dad call my late paw paw "daddy" every time they talk about him. And when he was still alive he was referred to as daddy. and HIS dad was called "dah dah" for some reason. I think it must be a southern thing because it's pretty common around here.

What should I call him?

No it isn't weird. If it was said weird than maybe but its just easy to say.
Saying "Dad" sounds so unnatural to me.

I don't find it strange at all.

I,d give my right nut for my dad to be alive and have this conversation with you

Scruffy calls his old man pop.
He refused to respond to "dad".

If you were in your 50's and your 2 sons in their 20's did it, you would think it was awesome.

I bet in time most people just wish they would still have a dad to call, well, anything really.

Hmmm. I'm betting you've never had to say the words, "I wish my daddy were still here". It all makes sense after that.

Old ben here took care of my daddy and my daddy's daddy

Both sides of the family (very country people) referred to my grandfathers as "Deddy", and it's definitely a southern thing. My son started calling my that as soon as he could talk from my Mom referring to me as that and it kinda stuck. My father-in-law is telling my son to call him "Pop" and I think it's fricking faggy and yankeeish. My opinion might be skewed because I hate the mother fricker and everything he does.

You are on Facebook, now that is weird, real weird.

You're weird if you don't do this.

When my children were pre-teens they both called me daddy. My son is in college and now calls me dad, daughter is 13 and still calls me daddy. Wife is called mama. They referred to my dad (RIP) as Big Da, and my mom as Nana.
