Good, they should be forced to collect the same sales tax as local stores to make it fair competition.
Online stores are already at an advantage with not having the overhead costs that come with having a brick and mortar location, allowing online stores to offer lower prices. Pair up lower overhead with no sales tax and its going to be more and more difficult for local stores to compete. I like the convenience of online shopping for certain things, but also don't want to see local stores going out of business because they couldn't compete on a fair level with the internet retailers.

pretty cool that as a retailer you get to keep one percent of your sales tax. I didn't know that until I became one.
(at least on parish, I e-file state and don't know there)
if you pay on time. the whole process is ridiculous though, especially if you have a service company and visit many different parishes and locations. then you have the whole process of deciding on if you should be charging sales tax.

What is screwed up here in Alabama is this:
Amazon is charging 8% tax(typically sales tax is 9% locally, which is split about 50/50 between city/county and state)
The state will keep all Amazon 8% but will Give Amazon back 2%, provided Amazon submits tax payments on schedule thus Amazon makes 2% profit off customers, that local stores do not make.

It's water under the bridge but I am opposed to a "use tax" being imposed on mail order items shipped from out of state.
The item simply travels here on trucks that already pay road/fuel tax. The shipping company pays income tax on their shipping profits. Why does the state deserve a cut?

Isn't Tennessee one of several states in the south that don't require their citizens to pay state income tax?
Yes. But I'm not sure if you're implying that has something to do with sales tax?
My sales tax is probably higher than most. Franklin, TN is a beast with its sales tax.

Yall act like Amazon wants to collect sales tax. No company wants to collect sales tax... Louisiana law makers are making Amazon collect sales tax. Hope yall realize that...
Amazon isn't innocent in all this. I believe their deal with AL allows them to keep 2% of the "tax" collected.

I purchase way too much stuff and too large of a variety to waste time trying to find stuff tax free.
Search Amazon, select items, click order now, win!
Surely most of you all have better things to do with their time right?

This thread is funny, remember looking for ways around it when it happened in Tennessee. Still shop at Amazon because Prime is fricking awesome, but sales tax does suck.

you got the Anova with only Bluetooth?
Yeah. I didn't do a ton of research as to the benefits of Bluetooth only or Bluetooth and wifi, but for the price difference I can't imagine it is that significant.

Curious to see how many people suddenly find friends and relatives to ship to that have low local sales tax, since it will be based on shipping address.
Have family that lives in Cameron Parish, which has 0% local sales tax. 5% tax would actually be cheaper than self reporting the 8% use tax on return, and with State getting their cut little worry of Revenue looking into it, lol.

A timely filed discount is used in most states for sales tax reporting. You don't file on time? Big penalties and interest.

Yeah, this isn't what Amazon wants. This is what the individual states want.

I mean....most other states pay sales tax to Amazon.
If you didn't see this coming, you're naive. I'm surprised that it's just now happening.
