San Angelo isn't far from there and a nice town.

Depends what kid of setting you want. I live in Hobbs, it was ok. Buying a shop in Fort Stockton, so probably moving there next. Big springs is a country setting. Andrews is the same. But, there is some pretty decent spots in Midland. Also depends what rigs you will be going to, want to be kind of centralized

Pecos used to have a pretty solid Subway for anniversaries, birthdays, other special occasions, but I think it closed.

I have a friend who had to live in West Texas for work for a couple of years and he said he was generally OK during the days unless he happened to look up and see a jetliner's vapor trail.

In before chemtrails.....

Andrews and Big Spring, from what I've heard, are solid places in west Texas. Smaller communities though. I know their schools are only 4A I believe.

Midland is better than it used to be, Odessa is far worse than it used to be

Guy that works for me lives in Andrews which is not too bad for schools if you have kids.

Single and living out there? Abilene or Lubbock.

I stayed in Odessa on my drive from El Paso to South Carolina.

They had a real nice WalMart there.

ETA: Also, I have never seen so many help wanted signs in my life.

I spent about 6-7 months out there back in 2011. I would never voluntarily go there unless the money was spectacular (it was). That being said I would much rather Midland vs. Odessa. If you decide to stay in Midland I would look at some place off of Wadley...it's actually not a bad area and believe it or not it's shaded in oak trees. Lot's of chain restaurants but there is a good steak house at the corner of Big Spring and Wadley and for pretty good Italian there is Vesuvio.

To be honest, if you are going to work out there, Midland makes more sense than being in Abilene or even San Angelo. Whatever you do, stay out of Odessa. It gives shiteholes a bad name

Live in Lubbock over Midland. It's cheaper, has sort of P5 D1 sports, lots of hot college girls

Lubbock to Odessa is like 1hr 45 mins FYI

Getting transferred over there. Our shop is in Odessa but I'm going out to rigs, so I don't have to live in Midland/Odessa...probably within 2-3 hours drive.

I would try and live in :
Lubbock,Abiline, Midland, San Angelo in that order.

you'll probably be best off in Abilene.

Abilene or San Angelo are your best bets. Nice mid-size towns.

I like abilene because it would be furthest east.

for me that would put south louisiana as a managable 9 hour drive to BR. 10 to Nola.

I worked for a year out near glen rose and made the drive every 3 weeks. wasn't bad at all

My biggest fear in the world is getting stuck living in a rural area of Texas like that. I'm sorry OP.
