This. Snowden clearly had no idea the degree to which the American public would say WGAF? to the revelation that the govt was spying on text and data.

Assange is not American. I agree that Snowden is a Patriot. It really comes down to motives and I think Snowden's were pure.

Honestly, who didn't already assume this was happening way before this revelation?

Just because Assange isn't American doesn't keep him from being a hero for freedom and that's enough to make him at least an honorary patriot IMO.

Both... More of a Patriot though

i'm in this camp. he still broke the law and we have laws for a reason, but we need whistleblowers to be able to do their thing.

He broke the law? The stuff he leaked showed those who are supposed to uphold and enforce said laws ignoring them completely.

I know he is wanted for treason against the US. What I would like to know is, how? Dude knew it was bullshite that our government was spying on its own and called [them] out on it.

in my opinion, we should have a day off work because of him.

Good thread OP.

He had the balls to call-out the government for corruption. That's a good thing. Too bad must Americans don't care.

agreed. maybe traitor is too strong a word but he broke the law itself by leaking it.

Don't get me wrong.... give me Snowden every day and twice on Tuesday, but he still broke the letter of the law and i salute him for it.

He is a whistle blower almost to the definition. He should have some protection to disclose some things that are illegal. I'm not 100% on everything he sent out, but I lean toward Patriot.
I really don't see how Congress doesn't give him more support. It points to a lot of the hearings being just dog and pony show.
Congress call s Clapper in to testify under oath to the Senate, who says they are concerned about privacy. Snowden later releases stuff showing Clapper lied under oath to Congress. Nothing ever comes of it, except Snowden has to worried about a drone blowing his head off when he goes outside.
