Why is Les Miles name the most mentioned for most coaching vacancy?

After his tenure at LSU and his release after a dismal start to 2016 season. Should he still be considered one of the top rated coaches in collegiate football? I would think most schools would look to other coaches before granting an interview to Les Miles.

he would be a homerun for most programs

Les has a good agent

Probably more of a courtesy than anything

Has he actually gotten any offers?

I don't think Texas gave him much of a look. I don't hear about a lot of interest from Oregon either. Those are the two best jobs open. Purdue seemed to have interest and Houston has interest, but those aren't the best of jobs. Baylor might have some interest too I guess.

Because if you're looking for a vacant coach, Miles has got to be at the top of your list.

He's the only available national championship coach out there. Programs are going to at least interview him. I doubt he's being seriously considered at any big programs.

Relative to the entire CFB coaching pool, he's a good coach. Perhaps not much in the x's/o's department but he's a program builder. Most programs would improve under his watch.

He had an amazing record at LSU with a national championship. He got complacent while other teams and coaches were becoming more innovative. He's still a top tier coach, but he needs to change his mentality about some things.

Go look at his resume compared to other coaches available currently. His resume pretty much outshines them all. He recruits well and he is a standup human being who had a high graduation rate and put tons of players in the NFL.

well like it are not, he gets double checks in every category but letting the oc call the game. He is a program builder a spokesman and a great recruiter and would kill it in any interview. A lot of schools would do good to hire him. Plus he's the only coach on the board with a natty. Remember now that most schools have a list and a coaching search. Unlike LSU cluster f?ck numb nuts joe.

I think the better question is "does Miles really want another job?". Of course he says that he dies but we know he's full of shite most of the time. As long as he appears to be looking for a job he'll get paid to stay home.

Several reasons. He has a good agent. He won't wreck your program. He's a household name.
Personally I think AD's are floating his name out there as a smokescreen in order to get the "other" coach they want at a better price. Houston is a great example. I'd be shocked if he got the Houston job over Kiffen.

There are programs out there that would give anything to have what LSU had under Les.
Again it's all about the fit. He can get a job if he wants one.

Because he's still a great coach. Sometimes it's just time to move on

Most programs would be thrilled with what he did at LSU.
Plus there usually are about 10 people rumored for a job and only one that gets it.

quote:Wow. Best record in LSU history and a BCS title, with another appearance in the big game, during his tenure... and you think this is a negative? Remember, his worst full season here was still 8-5.
After his tenure at LSU and his release after a dismal start to 2016 season.
2016, he lost close road games to a team that made the Big 10 championship game, and an SEC team that ended up with a better record (ok, you could say same record) as us. The horror.
I think the better question is, what programs think that Miles would be really motivated to take over now? He's over 60 and has accomplished just about everything he set out to do, and he doesn't seem to have the fire he used to have anymore.
If Les interviewed somewhere and came across as really hungry for one more run at it, he's instantly the top choice.
I don't think the jobs that would enthuse him are open right now; but he'd be a killer hire at somewhere like Nebraska.
