What's at the root of the problem between Nick and Lane?

I know there's been trouble in paradise for a while, but curious what's the primary cause of the beef between them?
Does Kiffen simply not piss excellence at the level of Saban's standard, or is there something more?

Kidding lost him a game last year....

It's media driven. It creates drama at a place where the "process" takes precedence over everything else.

No one pisses excellent to Saban's standard, but even though you were joking, this is pretty close to the root of the divide. Kiffin is a lot more laid-back of a personality than Saban and doesn't take himself quite as seriously.

It's like an ego death match in the Roman Colosseum.

Saban is probably tired of babysitting that frickin man child.

There is no problem. Kiffin wants to be a head coach again.

Kiffin filed a grievance against the Raiders, claiming that he was fired without cause,[13] but on November 15, 2010, an arbitrator ruled that Davis did indeed have cause to fire Kiffin.

Cable called the timing of Cregg's departure "wrong in the business of coaching" and indicated he had lost respect for Kiffin and planned to confront him about it.

After one season as coach, Kiffin left

While Kiffin accused Meyer of violating NCAA rules, he incidentally violated a Southeastern Conference rule that prevented coaches from mentioning a recruit by name. Kiffin's accusations against Meyer were mistaken.

In addition to the SEC's public reprimand, Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley demanded a public apology from Kiffin.[26] Kiffin issued a public apology one day after making the comment.

Kiffin's tenure at USC was widely considered a disappointment.

Kiffin for the first time became a voting member of the USA Today Coaches' Poll, but he resigned after just one vote amidst controversy over his preseason selection of USC as No. 1.

On February 28, 2016, Lane and Layla announced that they were separating and have mutually decided to divorce.
The root cause of the problem always seems to be Kiffin. Even his wife doesn't like him anymore.

There is no contention between them at all. Nick is a little jealous of Lane's ability to dial up plays as nick knows that he's only good in college bc he can spend more money to recruit than anyone else. Play calling isn't nicks greatest skill and he knows it. Lane , on the other hand, has shown that he can outcoach nick head to head. I think that may be the only tension there, but I don't think it's eating at nick as bad since Lane helped him hide his poor quarterback evaluations recently

It's nothing new or groundbreaking, but seeing all those facts about Kiffin's past jobs in rapid succession really makes me dread having him in Baton Rouge.

On a personal level, Saban obviously loathes Kiffin.
However, Saban is a great coach, because unlike some incompetent AD's and previous LSU head coaches I know, he does not let emotion get in the way of his job. He knew he had to modernize and streamline his offense and Kiffin was the man to do it.
Kiffin may not have liked the working conditions, but that is his privilege.
To me the over-arching point of this whole situation is Saban hiring Kiffin in the first place. Saban will do what it takes to win championships, without letting personal feelings and likes interfere.
That's an attitude I wish LSU would take.

Saban is a dick. Plain and simple. He very intense and honestly doesn't give a crap about anyone. He is there to put together a program that wins and he is the best at doing that. He has no time for respect or feelings being hurt. It's why no coaches stay with him long term. They go there, stay for a few years and gtfo.

I really think much of it stems from the two men having different philosophies about play calling, at least situational play calling. I do view Kiffin as someone who can outsmart himself and get away from what's working (i.e. choosing the pass or run/pass laterally when they've been running the ball at will up the middle all game).
They also obviously have different personalities that compound their coaching differences.

not sure there is a problem so to speak. if lane does want out, its probably more about getting out from under the saban shadow.
