Race played a huge role in getting rid of Strong this year. If he was white he would still be the coach at texass. No doubt about that.
He didn't have enough "Skins on the Wall" as a Head Coach to even remotely have been considered for the job at Texas, arguably the #1 college coaching job in the country.
He got preferential treatment, just like Sumlin. (Who didn't have the "Skins" either for the A&M job) Just because you can recruit, has no bearing on whether or not you can manage a program like Texas. Both are in way over their heads and it's playing out on the field........................

I know posting this to expose Texas and they deserve it. However, surely you're not new to Amerika, the great hypocrisy, and think that people of color usually get the same opportunity as whites.

Stanford has a black coach, and a ton of talented white kids. To say what you just said is reverse discrimination. So a team can't be good bc it has white kids?
I gwt the point you're pushing but I don't think it's ignorant.
McCaffrey and that Switzer kid from NC say hi.

Coach 1 got 5 seasons. Coach 2 got fired after 3 seasons.
I believe had Herman not been available, Strong gets 1 more season. Many say Herman is the next Urban Meyer, you dont miss that opportunity for a HC with a losing record who is on the cusp of probably being fired the next season anyway.
I like Strong btw

its not just if you win or lose, its how you win or lose.
I listen to Austin radio and they've said many times coaches have told them throughout Strong's tenure that they were a poorly coached team and never made adjustments.
Like Parcells once said, you're either getting better every week or getting worse. They werent getting better or making adjustments.
Its like the one game where they had 3, yes 3 blocked extra points this year and all of them came from the same gap in the offensive line. They never even made an adjustment.
Good guy but was out of this league. GTFO with all the racist BS

I don't think race had anything with his hiring or firing. Th program wasn't on an upward trend, especially with losing to Kansas. That game almost by itself sealed his fate. He would still be the coach with 2-3 more wins over teams they should have easily beat.

Yes Amerikkka is so intensely racist against black people that it elected, then re-elected, a black man to be president. The ultimate act of racism.

Might as well anchor this thread now. It's going nowhere fast.

Strong lost to Kansas, Bruh

Did coach 1 lose to Kansas?

Here is what I don't get. Strong is a good coach. He was an excellent DC at Florida and very good at Louisville as a head coach. Texas has been a dumpster fire since they lost to Bama in the BCS championship game. Could the problem be more Texas than the Head Coach of Texas?
Posted on 11/30/16 at 9:30 am to OneMoreTime
right after the Kansas loss the LSU higher ups should have floated rumors of texas being racist to Hill and screaming A smith
Posted on 11/30/16 at 9:35 am to CGSC Lobotomy
Yeah! UTx is racist as Shiite.
That's totally evident in the fact that they had to have first HIRED a black coach to later fire him for racial reasons as you suggest. Critical reasoning is not one of your strong suits, is it?

I've thought about this, and while there's probably no single answer, here goes.
At Florida, he was coaching plus athletes (even plus for the SEC) on defense that Urban (and himself) brought in. Honestly, whenever a coach gets hired out from under a Saban or a Meyer, there's probably always a concern whether that coach was benefiting from the greatness of those guys or is also a great coach. Anyway, he's coaching plus athletes in a bit of an innovative defensive scheme at the time (3-3-5...I'm assuming he ran that there quite honestly) against SEC offenses that were mainly more traditional pro/I style. And it obviously worked well - combine that with the fact that Florida had a great offense under Urban and it put even more pressure on opposing offenses. And at Florida, I doubt Strong had any "game management" responsibilities.
At Louisville, I believe there's no doubt that Strong was bringing in plus athletes on the D side to that conference. Under the radar recruits who gave him an athletic advantage over the AAC (or whatever it was) teams he was playing against. And he had the fortune (a bit) to get a 1st round NFL QB (who frankly, didn't put up the biggest of numbers there). Some of the failings that got him canned at UT (game management, special teams, staffing decisions...he fired his first OC there a few games in) started to expose themselves at LVille but not enough to make him lose a bunch of games.
Coming to Texas, the athletic difference was minimized, people had started to figure out his 3-3-5 and all the stuff that first started to be exposed at Lville was magnified here. Staffing decisions were terrible. Game management was terrible. Even defensive scheming was terrible in several games this year...essentially refusing to acknowledge when certain offenses were decidedly one dimensional and trying to take away that dimension (KState comes to mind immediately). Anyone who watched the OK State game and still thought he should be retained doesn't have a clue about the sport.
And Kansas.
I also think his personality is a bit "isolationist" to begin with - tends to try and do everything himself without delegating well. That might certainly have been necessary at LVille but at any big program, is impossible.

That's probably the best answer we'll ever get as to why he failed at Texas.
Posted on 11/30/16 at 10:35 am to CGSC Lobotomy
I guess Texas wasn't racist when they hired Strong, but turned racist over the past 3 years. Yea, that's it.
Or maybe it was the utter lack of improvement, and losing the last 3 games this year, including to Kansas for the first time in 78 years and getting shelled by mediocre TCU at home to end the season.
They knew they could get Herman, and had to move fast.

It comes down to two words as to why Charlie was screwed at UT: Clint Hurtt. Clint Hurtt was Charlie's guy in south Florida. Without him Charlie couldn't bring in the studs from Florida before he was able to solidify things in Texas. Hurtt got hemmed up by the NCAA and is now coaching in the NFL. And, Charlie had more than a first round QB at Louisville. The year Bridgewater was drafted if I remember correctly, he was the last Louisville player drafted in the 1st round. There were two Louisville players drafted ahead of Bridgewater in the first round in Calvin Pryor and Marcus Smith. In 2015 Louisville had 9 guys drafted in the NFL! Charlie missed his ace recruiter.

OP Aggie starts another thread about the Longhorns #notarivalry
I'll bite anyway...
Why the hell are you comparing a coach from 2016 to a coach from the late-80's/early-90's? The administration at the university was different. The climate of the city/country was different. This is a shitty thread.

Clint Hurtt.
No doubt. He didn't have him specifically, and also, no one like him in his initial staff at Texas. And by "like him" I mean a good recruiter. Chris Vaughn was probably the best (then busted for previous actions at Ole Miss). No one on the offensive side of the ball was a stud recruiter - no one.
