Playoff crashers: Ranking outsiders who can still get in the party

ESPN - Bill Barnwell
*Bucs have a 10.1% chance due to tough schedule, and the Panthers 5.5% due to divisional record
this surely has 2014 written all over it...but, who cares as long as their the team IN it? If the defense continues to improve, theirs no reason not to think this. Well, except for the last 2 seasons.

3. New Orleans Saints (4-6)

Playoff odds: 15.3 percent

This could have been so much easier for the Saints if they had just managed to come up with some late-game heroics. They lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Broncos two weeks ago on a blocked extra point that would have given them the lead with 1:22 left, then saw a frantic comeback come up three points short against the Panthers on Thursday. With a little luck earlier in the season, the Saints could easily be 6-4 or better right now and be primed to compete with the teams in the NFC East for the wild card.
quote:
It'll be tougher now, but the Saints have a shot. Their schedule the rest of the way is not exactly scary: They host the Rams and Lions over the next two weeks, play a home-and-home with the Bucs, and travel to Arizona before a season-ending trip to Atlanta. The Falcons currently hold the tiebreaker over the Saints, but they're only ahead by two games with six to play. The Saints need a little help from the Panthers in Week 16 to prevent the Falcons from creating a tiebreaker firewall, but it's hardly out of the question that the Saints could travel to Atlanta in Week 17 with a shot at winning the division. That hasn't gone well for the Falcons in the past.

This is all too familiar. This has been the story for the past few seasons.
My guess is we will win the next two. See the glimmer of hope....and then us fans will be crushed again.

I hate to say it but it's still a very real possibility. Just beat TB 2x and ATL in the final game and that's 3 wins to bring you up to 7.
ATL has a very tough remaining schedule:
-Cardinals: Should be a W
-Chiefs: Probably a L for ATL
-@Rams: Probably a L on the road
-49ers: Should be a W
-@Car: Probably a L on the road
-Saints: Giving you the W in my scenario
If it goes like the above, you're neck and neck with ATL and we would've split the series with each other. I don't think the NFC South produces a wildcard given the East and the Vikings so it's a 3 man race between ATL, TB and NO.

... and looking at the Saints schedule, the only game they should lose would be DET but even that's in NOLA. The Saints schedule is very friendly here at the end. Just gotta beat TB 2x.

surprised Barnwell had anything remotely positive to say about the Saints.
he took a big shite on them before the season in his predictions I'm pretty sure.

So he was accurate?
They basically have to win out, may be able to afford 1 more loss, to have a shot. They will win the next 2, win 2 of the 3 after that. If they need the win against Atl to make the playoffs, they will give it away at the end; if the game is irrelevant to both, Saints will win as Atl rests their players and we chase individual stats.

oh I don't know if he was or not.
doesn't matter really.
I totally agreed with him on the Fleener signing. The Saints haven't gotten their bang for buck on that one so far.
he gave them a shitty grade for their offseason and it mainly had to do with the Fleener signing.
i'm not saying he was wrong, its just i'm use to seeing him taking some kind of shot at this team. He didn't go back and pat himself on the back from what he said in the preseason.

Agree with DeathValley, we will claw back to .500, then lose 1 or 2, then claw back again until we run out of games and wind up 7-9 or 8-8

We've seen this movie before. We know how it ends
2007:
0-4 start. Eventually get to 4-4, then go 5-7; fight back to 7-7! Finished 7-9
2012:
0-4 start. Fight back to 5-5, only to finish 7-9
2014:
Start 1-3, get to 4-4, crash back down to finish 7-9
2015
Start 1-3. Get to 4-4. Crash back down to 4-6. Finish 7-9
2016
Start 1-3, Get to 4-4, now on two game losing streak....look familiar?
Just like 2012, 2014, and 2015, the Saints rebounded to .500 before losing a game at home that would put them above .500. They never recovered.

I wanna get on board with this, bc we're totally getting back to 6-6. But its the same story as the last 2 seasons. If it was any different, they would've won at least one of these last two.
I'll believe it when i see it. Until then, Im not taking the bait again.

We will definitely be sitting at 6-6 two weeks from now, that's the biggest sucker bet in town
Where we go from there, is, I guess up for grabs, but like others have said, we've seen this movie before

I agree. While he's decent...he isn't worth the money so far. At least, he's not a bust though(like Spiller & Browner). Kruger sucks, but we didn't give him a ton of money. We actually had a pretty a damn good offseason.
F.A. - Fairley, Criag Robertson, Fleener, Sterling Moore, Stupar, Kuhn, BW Webb, Tapp, Kruger, Jahri Evans, Lutz, & Erik Harris. We've gotten our money's worth from all of them besides Fleener & Kruger...we've got a few steals in there.
Draft - Rankins, Thomas, Bell, Onyemata, & Lasco.
UDFA - Tommylee Lewis, Jake Lampman, Landon Turner, Ken Crawley, & DeVante Harris.

Because he knew he wasn't right

Saints have to win out and I don't think it would happen. I think they will go 4-2 to finish out 8-8.

So you're saying there's a chance.....

"the only game they should lose"
I think some of you still have not moved on from 2013...we suck. There are no sure things on our schedule and there haven't been in years
