Around. They have a good shot at being 10-2 with wins over Rutgers and Mich. St. He has also beat THE OHIO STATE university this year. This is only his Third year.
Franklin has S.E.C. experience. He did well at vandy. He is very energetic and charismatic. I think LSU would do well to see if they can get a James Franklin. Of all the people mentioned, there aren't many better.

I mentioned him before (not first choice) and got torn apart. Prepare for a lashing.

I can hold my own. Franklin has as impressive of resume as anyone. Can't say he doesn't have a lot of h.c. experience, can't say he hasn't been a coordinator, can't say he hasn't coached in and won big games. Can't say he can't recruit, can't say he hasn't coached in the s.e.c.

Check out his overall record. And consider that he coaches in the Big 10.

Me too. Downtowns came raining down. I don't know what people on this board want.

So we should never hire a coach that coaches in the big X? I guess we should never have hired Nick Saban? We should never think about hiring Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh. Makes total sense.
So if you go to program that isn't having success, you improve it to have success (vandy and penn state) The building process/losses in the beginning out way the result?
If that is the case, then Nick Saban would have never been hired by LSU. A 500 to sub 500 coach for three years.

I'm sure it's because, like strong, he was an up and coming coach. However, like strong, it was taking time to rebuild Penn State. The people on this board isn't going to like someone unless they can "see" the success.
I have been a fan of Franklins for a while. Wanted him to replace les miles three years ago. However, it hasn't become obvious, until now, that he is the coach I/we/you thought he was. He is a easier "sell" at 10-2 after three than 7-5 or 8-4.

Franklin inherited a very damaged Penn State program and done a great job turning it around. He's just now getting them clicking.
There's also no denying the impressive results he produced at Vandy. We all know how difficult it is to win there.
I can think of better options than James Franklin at LSU, but I can also think of much worse. That includes some of the names being floated around on this page.

He comes off as an a-hole. You know our fanbase has to love the guy if he's going to be the headcoach.

He was being talked about as possibly being fired before tOSU, which if you watched that game it was kind of a fluky win to be honest. I think he's a good coach and I wouldn't be mad if we hired him or anything but not sold on him at the moment. Would still much rather him than like Fedora or Dana.

same here. with the right assts he would be a good choice. who knows if he would be the best choice or not. but, it is very common that a school, even a name brand had to settle. tejas, supposedly the "best" job out there, had to settle as did bama several times before they lucked out with Saban. there are plenty of other examples all over the country.
selecting a HC really is all about timing and luck.

Not saying he isnt a good coach, but he has seriously struggled at the QB position and O-Line. Thats kind of a big deal for us. Also, he was considered firmly on the hot seat until they upset Ohio State.

Franklin would never leave Penn St for LSU.

Hasn't he improved those positions since he got there?
Who had him on the hot seat after two years? If there are people that considered him on the hot seat after two years, I don't think you make a decision based on those dumbass people's opinion. They were obviously wrong.
Franklin took on an enormous challenge at Penn State. With all the turmoil, sanctions, etc. due to the Sandusky scandal, Anyone who thought you were going to walk in there and start winning from day one is nothing more than a person having no rational thought process at all. He has done one of the most remarkable Jobs in College Football turning that program around.

the way he's turned the season around is pretty spectacular, they have a legit shot at a 10-2 year.
a bad loss yo michigan, but there was also a winnable one against pitt

This is a fluke year at Penn. The big ten is down with the exception of OSU and Michigan.
Penn State has beaten TWO P5 teams with a winning conference record. And one of those wins was the fluke win at Ohio State. Not much to hang your hat on.
Franklin will still be fired within the next 3 years, just like he was going to be this year if not for the outlier season.

While I agree that Franklin is not leaving Penn St for LSU, Penn State is not a better program than LSU in today's college football landscape. Both great destination jobs, but LSU is a tad better job.
