So we should hire Steve Ensminger or Cam Cameron as HC. Got it.

FACT: LSU couldn't muster 130 yards of total offense vs bama at home with O and Ensminger behind the wheel.

My conclusion is that Herman is still unproven and may not be the genius some think he is.
Yes, Ohio State beat Alabama. Should Josh Heupel be a candidate because Oklahoma scored 43 points against Bama in the Sugar Bowl?

Let's see he has no HC experience and was fired from OU...hmmmmm...you do the math on that one.

It's possible. Who do you suggest over him though?

You only bring up one aspect of Herman's achievements. He also brought Houston recruiting from the 80s and 90s in rankings to the 20s. He's beaten more than double the amount of ranked programs in 1 1/2 years than O has in 3 1/2 years. With far less talent. He's won a NC as an OC.
Oh yea, and like you said, he beat Alabama.
What exactly does O bring to the table again?

That's the point.
Herman's record so far is mixed. Even in a strong year last year, Houston lost to UCONN. This year has clearly been a disappointment. They beat Oklahoma but Oklahoma's defense is not strong at all.

No it's not. You asked us to compare a guy who was fired as OC and never been an HC to a guy who was OC of a natty winning team and then took over a program as HC. He is now 20-3 with a bowl win over FSU.
I really don't understand your logic at all. Again instead of saying Herman is not the answer why don't you say who you would hire. I'm not Herman or bust, but if you don't want him then who do you want?

Great post. Tom Herrman is greatly overrated. He's perfect for Texas.

I'm not Herman or bust

I agree 100% notice how when i ask "who do you have over Herman" it's crickets in this place. Let's all bash a guy with a good track record, but offer no alternative solutions. Really fricking helpful to having a discussion. Of course, like you said, this is just propoganda for his anti herman agenda. It was never meant to be a discussion of merit (herman vs o vs jimbo vs aranda vs fleck).

Point was: If 2014 Sugar Bowl was last year, how many people would want to hire Josh Heupel after Oklahoma beat Bama? A few years later, Heupel was fired. Of course, he wouldn't be hired now. But what if the 2014 Sugar Bowl game was the 2016 Sugar Bowl? Point is that beating Alabama even by scoring a bunch a points as an OC is impressive but should not be a reason to make someone a top choice for HC at LSU. Heupel did it but was fired from his job a few years later. Herman's HC record is mixed thus far. I agree with post above that the effect on recruiting is impressive so far and is definitely a plus for Herman. That said, if LSU wants to hire Herman because of offense: Houston's numbers this year don't compare to even LSU this year.

I'm not sure yet.
However, I think I can make a case that Dan Mullen should be hired before Tom Herman. Dan developed Dak Prescott, Tim Tebow, and Alex Smith. Dan was OC for Florida when they were NC contenders. Dan Mullen had MISS STATE ranked #1!! in 2014 for 6 weeks!! Think about that for a second. Dan Mullen has SEC experience. Dan Mullen's record ATS at Miss State is 51-46 overall and 31-24 as a favorite (I prefer a HC with a positive ATS record; Herman is 13-10 overall so far but 9-10 as favorite). Dan Mullen's weakness may be recruiting, but who doesn't think a winning LSU program recruits itself?
The fact that I can make a strong argument for Mullen over Herman means Herman is far from my #1
(Just to explain if it wasn't apparent: records ATS are a good objective measure of a coach because it lets you compare someone at a place like LSU with someone at a place like Iowa State. So, a coach with a positive ATS record is an indication that the coach can win almost anywhere. Dan Mullen has a positive ATS record at a traditional SEC cellar dwellar and has done it over 7 years-- it's not a fluke)
I think I'd be most excited about Chip Kelly but have huge doubts that that is a real possibility.
