is Mel Gibson gonna get an Oscar?
Posted on 11/4/16 at 10:47 pm to saintsfan92612
Both should at least get a nomination but sadly neither will... Gibson's past plus they will make sure half the big acting categories are made up of black actors whether they deserve it or not. Some really Great actors and performances are going to get shafted this year.

How was Vince Vaughn?
In my opinion this was his best role ever. Played it really well.

Better than I expected. The whole movie was amazing.

Will be a drafty day in Jewish hell before that happens again.

Was this the WWII version of Braveheart?

There is also a documentary about this fellow. May have to look for that.
Here is an article about him. Spoiler alert if you don't already know the story. LINK

The Army made Doss' life hell during training. "It started out as harassment and then it became abusive," Benedict says. He interviewed several World War II veterans who were in Doss' battalion. They considered him a pest, questioned his sincerity and threw shoes at him while he prayed. "They just saw him as a slacker," the filmmaker says, "someone who shouldn't have been allowed in the Army, and somebody who was their weakest link in the chain."
Doss' commanding officer, Capt. Jack Glover, tried to get him transferred. In the documentary, Glover says Doss told him, " 'Don't ever doubt my courage because I will be right by your side saving life while you take life.' " Glover's response: " 'You're not going to be by my damn side if you don't have a gun.' "
quote:
Doss saved 75 men — including his captain, Jack Glover — over a 12-hour period. The same soldiers who had shamed him now praised him. "He was one of the bravest persons alive," Glover says in the documentary. "And then to have him end up saving my life was the irony of the whole thing."

Andrew Garfield reminded me of Forrest Gump for the first half of the movie. He seemed borderline retarded. After the court martial he was good though. Vince Vaughn was ok but I think someone else could have a done better. Overall it was a great movie and I would recommend it to everyone.

Agreed, Garfields accent was simply terrible, he sounded retarded as you said. 1st half of the movie was just ok, second half was extremely intense and powerful. Vaughn is still such a stiff actor. I used to think he could be a great dramatic actor, but in reality if he's not playing "Vince Vaugh" he is just not that good.

I read the synopsis and I think "eh...no thanks" but then I see all the great reviews coming from everywhere and I think "hmm...maybe I should give this a watch".

It is worth a watch simply for the best battle scenes since Saving Private Ryan. But even then it has a lot more to offer than just that.

I just got out. It is a really good movie. And I don't get the accent hate. It really isn't an issue. In fact, it isn't too far off from real Desmond Doss.
And I'm not very religious.

Just got out really good movie. The WW II buff in me though disliked a couple non-spoiler parts. Having shot and carried a BAR you do not move and shoot it one handed. Other point you do not and I repeat do not pull grenade rings with your teeth.

What I liked is that Gibson left out some of Doss's real life badassery because he felt that the audience would find it too unbelievable. He toned the heroism back a little.

I liked that to. Usually you research a true story like this and find that they dialed it up. With this one it was actually dialed down in some ways.

I just saw it as well. Wow, that's a very impactful movie. If he wouldn't have survived and had witnesses, no way in hell I'd believe it.
