best coach available
I keep seeing this but not sure if it means the same thing to me as it does to others
The best coach available imo is the one that not only is a good coach Xs and Os wise but is a good fit with the team. One that can maximize the potential of the team and players. How can anyone gauge how great a coach is if he has never coached in that administration and those players?
I think the "best coach" is one that has shown they can win and put together a staff, one that can recruit your target areas, one that players like and want to give 100% for, and one that fits the institution.
With Coach O, I throw out the Ole Miss seasons. he has openly admitted his mistakes and publicly stated how he has corrected them. It has shown at USC and so far here at LSU that his corrections have worked. He has this team playing competitive football with a staff of interim coaches.
There isn't a coach out there that I think LSU has to jump on. Jimbo isn't any more available this year than he will be in two years. Herman imo isn't any more proven that CEO.
Id be happy with a small, maybe 2 year contract for the man. No telling who might be the "Herman" 2 years from now

" Yea, lets base what he can do in 2017 as a head coach on what he did 10 years ago I think he has gained experience through the years to become better. Not saying he is my #1 choice for a head coach, but saying that I bet he is not the same head coach today as he was 10 years ago.
Lack of proof =\= proof
Go to another program and PROVE you've changed. Time does not automatically make you better and he's never taken the chance to go back and prove he's learned.

maybe that's true, but let him prove it at a lesser school for a few years, then the bigger schools will come calling.
Just hoping he's learned some things since his complete failure at Ole Miss is an awfully big risk for a school like LSU to take.

Well your also a giant O supporter, so this makes sense

False. You're comparing two different things and you're wrong. Go back to dissing him about using his coordinators.

Make Herman and Fleck say no.
Then I wouldn't be upset to see what Orgeron could do.
Everyone has hated the thought of him coaching the team, but it's funny....during Miles tenure, this board would be COVERED with threads about how Miles can't coach. Nick picking his decisions. Complaining about this and that. Hundreds and hundreds of armchair QBs.
Where are all of those threads about Orgeron been? The only thing I've seen are your typical game thread chicken littles and that's it. No one has complained about his coaching so far. Why is that? Is it because he was terrible at Ole Miss? Where are all the threads criticizing his coaching and why hasn't anyone posted anything of the sort?

I don't know how anyone can not want the guy as the head coach. His personality and approach is great and the team has played pretty damn good under his coaching
Agreed, but his prior results aren't great. I'm not anti-O in any way but I understand those that are.

I disagree with a lot of your post, but vehemently disagree with the comment above.
A 2-year contract will signal to everyone (staff, players, opponents) that O isn't long-term. That will harm the ability to keep/retain staff, and especially recruiting.
A 2-year "trial period" contract is a really, really bad idea.

Okay let's say we hire offensive coordinator X
Year 1- offense looks bad...young players and a new system, it's all good
Year 2- offense has its moments but our QB problems persist and we never become a "good offense"....but hey he's only been there two years, still learning the system and he's the key to a big time QB recruit in 2 years so we want to keep him
Year 3- offense takes a step back, sloppy calls and bad execution...but we really want that 5 star QB next year and we had a couple injuries so hey one more chance
You're now on year 4 of bad offense before he's on the chopping block

The coaching changes board is filled with the same idiots that made this board the dumbest place on the internet for years.

That's funny, how much does Saban rely on Kiffin?
Everyone has been kissing BAMAs arse about that offense (whom has played absolutely no one) and Saban doesn't have a hand in it.

quote:jesus, you people never even heard of fleck a year ago now you think he should be handed LSU. theres a new version of fleck every single year.
You pick the best available. That's: Jimbo Herman Kelly Fleck

frickING FACEPALM
Saban has an elite defense on his side of the ball. The point is you can survive 1 bad coordinator if you know the other side of the ball can keep up
What if O hires a bad OC and a bad DC? There lies the risk you dolt
Posted on 11/4/16 at 3:06 pm to wildtigercat93
If a OC is not living up to your expectation you replace him. That's how it works. Same on the defensive side. You don't keep a bad OC because you want to get a 5 star QB recruit if that is what you are trying to say. But the point is you have to let these guys run whatever side of the ball you hired them for. If you are second guessing them all the time it makes for not so good football efficient relations.
