How often do you need 4x4 in your truck?

Getting a new truck and trying to decide if I am going to get 4x4, I want it but its going to cost me about another 10K for the trucks I have narrowed down to.

It isn't how often we need it, it is how often you need it. Everyone is different.

Well how often have you needed 4 wheel drive? Will be diff depending on where you are and what you do. Billy Bob muddin in the woods everyday is going to be using it a lot more than the average joe going to and from work.

Depends on year.
This year being no rains I haven't needed it once at the camp. Other years I need it every trip. Fishing wise I would say once a month, being some of the ramps I use aren't the most well kept.

My 2wd truck is a 99. Was on a farm exclusively for the first 10 years or so. Got stuck exactly 3 times.
Mind you this is a rice farm where water is the name of the game.

I use mine once a week on a certain piece of property. Could probably get away with a 2 wheel drive most the time but I put it in 4x4 to keep from rutting up the place too bad

I stay on the road 99% of the time, but the one time I didn't have a 4x4 I could get stuck turning around in wet grass. Only two or three times during the winter I go down a woods road or through a pasture and use it, but I will never have another truck without it.

I could probably survive without it by avoiding sutuations where I might need it, but I embrace those moments because they're usually fun times. I've relied on it during the flood and recreationally a few times at my buddy's property with a sandy beach.

Throw a come-along in that tool box

I build new landfills for a living, which is virgin earth work site. I never ise a 4x4. In fact, big trucks are the worst for getting around site. They sink too easy. A front wheel drive compact SUV, or a Jeep have been my best off road transpertation.

I couldn't access our hunting lease without one when it rains. Weyerhauser doesn't maintain the lease roads worth a shite. Right now the roads have 6" of dust on them. As soon as we get a good rain they will be impassable with a 2WD.

Currently almost never however I plan on trying to keep this truck for almost 10 yrs. and a lot can change in that time. Property and cattle are in the future plans.

Under normal circumstances you won't use 4x4 99% of the time. It sure is nice to have it for that 1% though

Never. Did not get with latest truck. So happy.

I don't always haul stuff in the bed of my truck. But when I need to I'm glad I have it. It's why I'll never own a car.
My current truck is 2wd. I've needed 4x4 a few times. My next truck, and every truck I buy from here on will have it.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Don't want to have to add a new truck to the mix

I went from a 2WD F350 to a 4WD F250, I probably use the 4x4 once or twice a month, though alot of those times it's more because I can than it being an absolute necessity, I love having it and can't see myself going back to 2WD though. A couple years ago our duck lease was inaccessible for 90% of the season unless you had 4x4 and even then was sketchy a few times. Plus all those times I got to laugh at people stuck on Elmers Island made it totally worth it.

I've "needed" mine about 10 times in 3 years. That said, I was glad I had it each time.
