Took my son walking around Lake End Park in Morgan City and all over the rocks near the bayou were these huge snails the size of my fist. There were blobs of pink stuff on the rocks. Research shows these are invasive apple snails.
Anybody else encounter these fricking things?

They have shown up on the Diversion Canal in the past 6 months.

IIRC, snail kites eat the hell out of them. I could be very wrong though.

I have a ditch 3' wide and 60' long ditch in my front yard. Back in August when we were having all that rain my ditch kept about 6" of water in it, One night I counted 16 of them frickers in it. Me and my son had an apple snail throwing contest.

Terrebonne parish is infested now too. Pretty much every ditch and fresh water bayou is crawling with them.

I found a recipe, they are supposed to be good.

I tried the snails from the grand isle rocks (was with some Filipinos) but those tasted bad too. The purging/soaking in clean water for a day may be the ticket.

Apple snails are highly invasive. They feed on aquatic plants, and reproduce so quickly that they are basically the aquatic version of a feral hog. Also a huge rice pest in Asia. If those bastids get into SWLA as bad as SELA, the rice industry is in trouble.
