So sick of all the anti live mascot fools that will take this opportunity to spout their ignorance at this time.
1. in almost all cases the mascot has been a rescue animal
2. in almost all case the mascot has either been donated or funded by private donations
3. in all cases the mascot outlived its life expectancy by 20-50%
4. you would be hard pressed to find a location that treats this mascot or any animal better. Mike gets better treatment and care than most family dogs.
5. the experience that this live mascot provides to vet school students is unparalleled.
6. the research directly benefits tiger in the wild.

We knew this day was coming after the diagnosis earlier this year. And it's sad, as he has a great personality as the feline ambassador of the university, particularly the athletic department.
I hope we continue the tradition, but the going will not be easy.

This was nose art on a WWII B-24 Liberator.
Assigned to 832nd Bomb Squadron, 486th Bomb Group, 8th AF USAAF. Named after LSU's mascot Mike the Tiger, as its regular pilot Lt Alfred Sanders was a former track star at the Louisiana State University.

Why? We have resources to tell PETA to attempt to perform something that is physically impossible.

I love you Mike. See you in Heaven some day. :(

Terrible situation. Prayers for an ease into resting in peace.

This makes me want to cry forever.
PETA -- frick off. The LSU mascot lives a charmed existence with many adoring fans, the best food, shelter, and medical care. If you want to do something good and decent, ride around and rescue all the animals that are being neglected and tortured all over this country. Mike the Tiger does not need your intervention.
