quote:
This was nose art on a WWII B-24 Liberator.
Assigned to 832nd Bomb Squadron, 486th Bomb Group, 8th AF USAAF. Named after LSU's mascot Mike the Tiger, as its regular pilot Lt Alfred Sanders was a former track star at the Louisiana State University.
Not shitting on your post ... just adding some interesting info I learned awhile back:
That is Glenn Gore's artistic liberty with the painting he did. Sanders' bomber was never actually painted as they weren't in the UK very long before being shot down (on their 5th mission, I think). I got to meet Sanders and his nose gunner, AB Smith, also an LSU alum, several years ago and had them autograph that print for me. I visited the site of the wreckage in Belgium and brought back some of the molten aluminum bits that still litter the hillside. In fact, the bomber they were in that day was a last-minute sub, so the whereabouts of their normal plane is unknown. Last I could trace it, it was one of the many lend/lease planes that was given to the British.

The man in suit Mike needs to do something special to honor him when the animal Mike dies.
Wasn't Roscoe an accident? One of his parents snuck into the other cage in Indiana and went to town.

So no shotgun blast to the head? Thanks for clarifying, doc.

They should go ahead a euthanize him. It sounds like he has little if any quality of life left. God speed Mike!

So very sad. Such a fine big cat. He will be sorely missed. He is fortunate to be getting such great care especially now.
