Lots of people try to ignore it and hope the feeling will pass. For anyone with a conscience, they might be able to bottle it up but will always carry it around with them.

Since it is eating at you, you probably aren't that type. While whatever this is will always be part of you it doesn't have to define you.

My suggestion: own it. Go to those who you hurt, whether or not intentional, and apologize and ask for forgiveness. I don't know you, but it sounds to me as if whatever you did isn't something consistent with your character. If that's the case, I suspect while people may be disappointed you'll be seen as a bigger person than those who try to ignore how their actions affect others, again whether intentional or not.

Lastly - forgive yourself, and don't beat yourself up continually over something you can't change. Use it to be a better person in the future, and perhaps be more forgiving of others who have lapses in judgement.
