Sixth grade curriculum in a German public school

My brother and his wife are friends with an American couple currently living in Germany. Their kid goes to public school there.
That's for sixth graders, mind you. Two hard sciences, two languages, one social science, one math, and three arts/humanities.

Kind of surprised they are teaching religion in a public school in Germany.

Yet to get into a graduate program, the GRE here in 'Murica only tests basic high school math concepts. I'm taking it next week and this blows my mind.

America's education system is moronic. Most other countries accept and promote the idea that some will rise while others do not.
We attempt to lift the shitty students while bringing down the great ones.

If ever there was a field that is subject to change and updates, it's certainly math

IIRC Germany has a state religion. Depending on the area, it's either the Lutheran or Roman Catholic Church.
ETA: I looked it up, and apparently not any more, but religions with a sufficient number of followers are entitled to certain privileges, one of which is instruction in public schools.

That's because they use tracks
They weed out the dumb kids early and start teaching them technical skills and jobs that don't require college degrees

How long do they go to school each day or are they taught in blocks because thats nine classes.

It's all about expectations. Parents would be in an uproar if their child had to start doing physics in 6th grade.. Plus, our education system is completely fricked.

My kid has the same in 6th grade except for physics.

This. Most developed countries don't waste their time trying to convince every child that they're college material and they don't focus on standardized testing. We have, arguably, the best university system in the world, but for those under 18 it really isn't that great.

It's more like a college schedule where you don't have each class each day. Usually it's 45 minute courses with six classes per day, something like 8am to 12.30pm/1pm. There is no busy work during lecture.
Also in the beginning of most classes, one student will be called upon to go to the front of the class and answer questions about the last lecture. This is for a grade so people need to review and be prepared each class on most days.
Religion can be opted out of, students can attend an Ethics class instead.
