Heard one of the commentators say something of the sort Danny Etling being another Matt Flynn. I would say at this stage he might be better than Matt or maybe I'm being overly optimistic.

There's nothing that says he's NOT better than Flynn. It's certainly a little early to make the comparison though.

Matt wasn't a world beater either. I think we have a little bit of nostalgic bias because it was a national championship season. I think they are both in pretty similar, but Etling might have more mobility.

Flynn was a pretty average QB for us, we just put him in good position to make the right plays when we needed it and had a dynamic offense. Etling has shown some promise so far but I'd be very reserved until he plays a team with more of a pulse where we're in a dogfight. I also liked the play calling a lot more last game than the other 2 games. Still some quirks to work out there, but if it weren't for those 2 fumbles, we probably score another 10-14 points.

But the comparison is pretty good. I think both have/had average arms, but can find open receivers, get the ball there with touch and also tuck and run when needed.

I agree with you. Take a look at both of their skill sets and etling has more plus his accuracy and release are better. I loved Flynn but objectively etling brings more to the table. Now if he implodes well know between the ears Flynn was much better but if he stays on track I think etling could be one of our best.

They both have a little something between the ears unlike Harris and Jordan Jefferson.

He certainly reminds me of Flynn. We'll see as he develops and we play better competition.

I also hope that Miles has some designed plays for Harris. I would like to see him included in game planning.

Are Etling and Flynn planning on playing each other? No, so who cares who is better. Etling is here now and Flynn is at home counting his money.

Matt Flynn kept improving when he got out of college. Right now, based on a very small sample size for Etling, I think he's better than Flynn was in college.

Matt Flynn is overrated by most LSU fans because he won a championship. But that championship was won on the line of scrimmage - both sides of the ball. Flynn ended up good enough to be a borderline starter in the NFL, and that's VERY good, but a lot of that development came after he left LSU.

Flynn had a much stronger arm. Etling looks good, and is obviously better than Harris, but those high arcing passes with really long hang time are a problem that teams like Florida will exploit.

I agree. People forget Flynn wasnt that great as a junior. Etling is using the whole field, and extending plays, making good decisions. If he can do the same against better competition and keeps improving, he'll be playing on sundays.

It may be a little soon to anoint him the next Matt Flynn. Flynn did win a national title. I can definitely see the similarities. I think we'll know more when we see Ole Miss and Bama. I actually think LSU has a good chance of going into Ole Miss with only 1 loss.

Too early to make that call, but he reminds of Flynn a lot in his style, pocket presence, accuracy, and just the way he carries himself.

That's all we really need to have. Execute that offense last Saturday answer and we win by 4+ TDs.

The first TD was picture perfect and the best pass I've seen an LSU QB make since probably Mett

Etling has much more upside. Let's not forget that LSU doesn't win the NC in 2007 if Ryan Perriloux doesn't step up and win the SECCG.

Etling has a fairly weak arm. Flynn could chunk it
