When Etling came in and sparked the offense, it was definitely a godsend. Going 6/8 is respectable. The thing I noticed most was his innate ability to navigate traffic in the pocket. Now, a lot of people were saying that the great 2nd quarter was marred by his 0/6 in the 2nd half, but looking at it closer, it really wasn't the worst thing.

5 passes in the 3Q that got shat on by everyone:

1. Jump ball to Dupre that was intercepted - was under thrown but Dupre didn't get position and made no effort to contest it.

2. *Slightly* overthrown ball to Guice when he couldn't really step into the throw. Guice should have had it.

3. 1-on-1 to Dupre. Malachi had position, defender played it well but Dupre should have caught it.

4. Pass to JD Moore on a FB bust out. Rushed it. Flat out overthrew it, and this was the only errant throw he had.

5. Backside roll out screen the defense read well that was batted down.

IMO, this is something to build off of, and I was very impressed by the poise he showed.

When was the completion to the TE that got called back because of the holding call?

I think Dupre might suck. Hard reality to accept, but its looking that way.

Give one of these big arse freshmen a look in that "jump ball" role. Wouldn't mind seeing if Drake Davis or Dee could handle it.

Exactly. That's why I didn't hate Etling taking a chance on that end zone throw to Malachi. He's what, 6'4" and a 5-star talent? You're supposed to out jump opponents, and make those catches. Etling took a shot and had faith in his receiver.

This is another thing thats aggravating about Miles. Some players can make the same mistakes over and over and Miles never flinches. Others make one mistake and get buried on the bench.

A QB who (1) understands how to read defenses and adjust to them, (2) makes sound decisions under pressure, and (3) has the intellect and physical skill to learn from experience is what's needed. Not sure if Etling is all that, but he shows signs that he might be. He deserves the opportunity to show what he can do. The same opportunity others have had.

He did some basic things well, he appeared to be reading the field fairly accurately and quickly. Had a good sense of where his receivers were going to be and when. If he can keep doing that consistently, at a minimum, that's pretty darn good.

I truly think Miles wants to only throw 6 passes a game and have 100% completion rate. In other words, throw only when absolutely and to a receiver who is all alone. So if they get to him with that mentality, the whole reading the field is out the window. We start seeing the same old thing- QBs who have to wait 4 -6 seconds for the "perfect" pass. We shall see.

Sounds to me like we need to give others an opportunity in this spot. If I remember correctly, he was critical of the offense early last year and told reporters about it, too.

Again a 6'4" 5-star WR ought to be able to out jump a 5'11' CB from JSU.

If he can't, we may need to reevaluate talent. Or just sit him until he decides he wants to start making plays on the ball instead of waiting for balls to come to him. Dupe is soft as Charmin.

I don't. He has shown some incredible ability in the past. I think he has an attitude problem.

That interception was all on Etling. It was well underthrown

Exactly. Dupre plays soft and does not go up and get it. The kid has skills but he needs to flip the switch. I don't know how many more drops you allow before you quit calling his number and give someone else a chance.

It seems like he just might.

Attitude problem + dropped passes = dropped on depth chart.

Just my opinion...we're so absolutely loaded in the WR column that we should at least be trying others in his spot to see if they'll win match ups and come down with the ball (hopefully those that are thrown by Etling).

it could be a combo of suck and attitude with Dupre, he plays like a small fricking child.

I hope he is riding the pine with harris.

Correct, and there's no argument about that. But as a receiver, you're taught in those instances when it's under thrown and you aren't in position to make the catch, you become the DB and do everything you can to knock that ball in the dirt or prevent the interception.

Malachi gave up.

I don't think he sucks, but I don't think he's nearly the player he believes he is.

Not that I disagree, but there were 3 catchable balls dropped in the Wisky game that likely cost us the win, but this board doesn't seem to want to give Harris those same breaks

I understand why everyone wants to be happy, but I think reality is about to bitch slap the hell out of them

I don't think you know what a 50/50 ball is
