Best "guy and a guitar" music?

Old or new? Acoustic or electric? I started one of these a while back but it had a more 1970's lean.
I'm still looking for that. John Prine was finally being told an awesome secret. So any other old artists out there that should be looked at?
Also, to change things up, what about newer people? Sirius/XM has a coffee house station. Most of the stuff I find insufferable, but I like the style.
Who are some new people I could check out?
I'm bored at work. Amuse me.

Pierce Pettis
Willy Porter
Bruce Cockburn (more 70's-80's than current)
Tommy Emmanuel
Is that the sort of stuff you're looking for?

Are the others you mention instrumental? Emmanuel just makes me want to put my guitars on eBay.

Much better, IMO, but darker.

Keller Williams has some pretty good and innovative solo stuff.

Old Billy Bragg....LPs Brewing Up With Billy Bragg, Talking With the Taxman About Poetry. He is why I learned to play guitar. I have a replica of his Burns Steer electric.

Yeah no shite. No the others mostly have singing along with the guitar playing. A few instrumentals.
Willy Porter - Paper Airplane
Pierce Pettis - Neutral Ground
Bruce Cockburn - Closer to the Light (a tribute to Mark Heard)

Both Prine and TVZ = prolific songwriters...no telling how many awesome songs TVZ had left in him. Hard to believe it's nearly been 20 years since he died.
TVZ's cover of Dead Flowers is one of my favorite cuts, ever. Well...that and Tecumseh Valley.

All I've seen of him was one video. It was very promising. Him and a hippy chick sitting in an old black mans kitchen. TVZ plays a song and the black man cries. The hippy, of course hugs.

It's not really guy and a guitar, but I listen to a ton of Gregory Alan Isakov. His stuff is very mellow but interesting, and without being particularly sappy. I like "coffeehouse" music to work to, but I can't listen to Sufjan and whispery emo shite like that for long.
Joe Pug is pretty close to pure singer songwriter on guitar.

Any of the solo records from the Delta guys. Hooker, Muddy, RJ, Wolf, Lightnin ',(not technically Delta) etc.
On a different tip, I still like the first Bon Iver record.
