For a great low rate you can get online, go to the General and save some time!

Stay with what you have.... It's no better than anyone else. Plus as the years go by, grades can make a difference in policy rates..

Pretty sure USAA has the best rates around.
They don't but they have excellent service. My parents have insisted that I hang onto my USAA coverage even though it is several hundred dollars more a year than quotes from other companies like State Farm.

I recently had the same happen to me. My Progressive ins would double if I added my 17 year old. ...... So I shopped around extensively and did the following-
Excluded child from driving my vehicles, so my insurance remained the same.
bought him a used car for 7K and opened a policy with Geico( the only company that didn't charge you an arm or leg) in my name and listed him as the primary driver. Full coverage w/ 25/50 and 500 deductible for 160 a month. this was the only way to go, I wasn't going to double my insurance to add a kid who would drive 3 miles to work twice a week. BTW, this was 18 months ago and the rate is still the same. Thank you Geico!!!

Raise your deductables to try and offset some of the difference. It's worked out OK for me so far. Of course I know I'm going to have to pony up the first $2,000 but maybe it won't happen for a year or 3.

I currently have $50k/$100k. Do I need to increase that. I just bumped my deductible from $300-$500. That saved me $63 every 6 mo. It's not a lot, but figured after a little over a 1.5 yrs, that would cover that savings

I've worked in and around the business for many years. Just some food for thought, never once have I seen a plaintiff attorney go after someone individually once their policy limits have been paid out. Never. It's too much work for no guaranty of money.
They go after the primary liability portion of your policy. Then, they tap into the U/M of the claimant. Once those are depleted, they're done. Every time.
Now, can they legally come after you personally? Yes. But I've never seen it happen. Not once.

Damn Louisiana has high rates.
I've got 100/300 for 1,000 a year. 2 vehicles, 2 drivers, 500 deductible.

The expense of your kid driving is just getting started. You probably want to pay fender benders out of pocket -and they will happen. Kids don't drive well. They learn by getting into the accidents that could never happen to them.

Not reading three pages of responses, but there are several companies I write through that use UBI (usage based insurance) and you get a minimum of a discount (some as high as 5%). That would help lessen your price, and you could keep tabs on him. I'm not sure if USAA does it, but Safeco has the best one on the market, followed by Progressive.
FWIW, if you don't have claims like you typed, your insurance score must be great. Time to shop around.

That's retarded man.
Shop around.

Agreed. I'm 24 and pay 950$/6 mo

putting anyone under 25 on your policy will make it double (or damn close to it).
This. Was paying $150 per month for myself and wife. Added 16 year old daughter, went to $350 per month.

How long does it take for an accident to be removed from your record. I got in a wreck when I was 18, now 23. I have 2 vehicles 15' Sierra and a work car that just has liability on it. The Sierra is labeled as a leisure vehicle. $1800/6 months.

Must have been a serious accident.

give him a cheaper car, and get liability only.

I had liability and totaled the other car. No injuries though.
