The Chargers released quarterback Zach Mettenberger, a source informed of the move told NFL Media's Rand Getlin. The Chargers engaged in talks with the Cowboys about Mettenberger before releasing him, Rapoport added.

The Saints need to pick him up.

Damn I thought he would be a solid backup.

I would love for the Mett to end up in NOLA.

I wish the Saints would get Mett; let him learn from Brees and see how that goes.
Hell, I'd rather him end up anywhere other than the Cowgirls

Well he's an LSU player so we know the chances of that are zero.
I honestly wouldn't mind stashing him on the practice squad and giving him a shot next year.

look I love Mett, but he couldn't win the 3rd string job in SD and that offense is coordinated by the guy who drafted him in Tennessee. Why should the Saints sign him?

Exactly. I will always be pulling for him, but its becoming obvious the dude just aint cut out to be an NFL quarterback.

Steve Young wasn't that good at Tampa did OK in San Francisco. CSP might be able to coach him up

with that OL of the Saints Mett would be dead in a week
Dallas would be a good spot. I thought he'd get more of a shot in the NFL, guess not

Rivers had his arse tossed because he made Stephen quit!

I watched a lot of him with the titans due to proximity, and he's just not very good. Titans OL was terrible, though. Dallas might be a better fit.

Really wanted him to make it here w/ the Titans...believe his NFL days are numbered now, just don't see it.

Wow. An LSU Star QB and a LA native QB who was turned down by LSU on the same NFL Team. One a Starter, the other a possible back up. Crazy. I'll drink to that.

Dude, Jerry Jones drafted Quincy fricking Carter! Think about that.
Nett would have zero problems making that team as a backup.

I always got the feeling much like J. Russell he was lazy when it came to studying film and working on his game. Relied on natural Ability and a rocket Arm looks like both will be favorites of LSU fans but didnt do much at the next level.

Mett has been thrown into bad situations and hasn't been able to learn from a good veteran QB. Give him a job backing up a Brady, Rodgers, Brees, or even Andy Dalton, and I think he'd improve greatly. He wouldn't become a stud, but he'd be a lot better fundamentally
