It'll only take ONE game to know what we're in for with Harris.

We started last season with back to back games with less than 100 yards passing and the thought was that we were grooming Harris and would open up the offense as the season went on. To the credit of the coaches they tried to do just that but it would have never been their approach had they trusted BH from the beginning.

If we're ultra conservative against UW it'll be a clear cut sign that BH hasn't turned the corner, and it could be another frustrating year. Even if he's 10-12 passing, only 12 attempts will be very telling. We'll know after one game.

FWIW I have faith we'll see a balanced offense--and that doesn't mean we won't see the toss dive. There will still be lots and lots of toss dives.

Losing that first game kind of screwed up Harris early, IMO. He had to start the season against on the road against a decent state team. Les and them didn't want to break him like that

The next game was auburn. He didn't need to throw once

I understand saving a few trick plays for Alabama and Arkansas, but we gotta run all our plays so he can execute them in the bigger games. Les can't will till November to practice passing or only having 80 yards passing on eastern Michigan's shutdown secondary.

No. So if Harris has an 83% completion percentage against a good power 5 team, it's going to be "telling" in a negative way? If Harris goes 10-12, it will mean we won by 3 or more touchdowns.

Well I certainly don't see a reason to "ease" Harris into this.

I agree that we will know after this game. If we see same as last year people will be making one excuse after the other but we all know deep down that it could be a frustrating year.

Define conservative.

If by that you mean running a lot it could be that we have a Heisman contending running back and the ground game is working against an inferior defense.

Baw that's not an intelligent comment. This is what is wrong with some LSU fans.

What if we are ultra conservative with Harris, but win by double digits?

Nothing has changed and Les Miles is going to keep everything close to the vest. Should be good enough to win 8-9, maybe 10 games during the regular season. This is not a Brandon Harris problem, this is an offensive scheme problem. You have a QB that is a threat to run, put him in a position to utilize that threat, don't neutralize it by putting him in a 2TE, I-formation set.

I just don't understand why AJ didn't get some reps if the story really goes that BH got hurt. Is that too much pride from the QB or a staff too stubborn?

the responders are being too picky here. The OP is basically correct - Wisconsin had a very good defense last year and probably will again this year. We're athletically superior but the Badgers won't be a pushover. Highly doubtful we can just line up and pound them into submission.

So all the OP is saying is that Wisconsin is a perfect looking glass into Les' offensive philosophy this year, as compared to if we were playing a cupcake.

Its not about the number of throws, it's about the efficiency. Harris main job is to keep the chains moving, convert the 3rd and 8 to 3rd and 4, either with the pass or scrambling to keep the drive alive.
That's what made e 2013 offense so good is we just about led the nation in 3rd down conversions. Mett always found Jarvis for 6, 7, 8 yrds to convert.
Consequently this kept the defense off the field and well rested.
We typically only run between 65-75 plays a game. You know fournette is getting 20+ touches, Guice should get around 10-12, That's almost half your offensive snaps. Harris needs to be around 15-25 for 60% completion percentage.
If we are slining it more than 30 times a game, then we are probably behind in the game

If the game is somewhat close, then we'll know b/c we'll have to pass it somewhat.
If we jump out to a 14-0 lead or something like that, you know we aren't going to throw the ball the rest of the game. Once we get a lead, Les will try to run out the clock, even if it's the first quarter. If he thinks for 1 second that we can run all over a team, we will do just that.

Running the ball is the strength of this team, as it should be since we have one of the best running backs to every play the game. If you think we are going to throw the ball 25 times a game you're kidding yourself, regardless of how good Harris looks throwing.

They dont' need to open anythign up. Just don't be so predictable and have more than 1 guy go out for a pass when you do decide to pass it. You can't call a pass play and have 1 WR run a pattern to the sideline and have the FB/TE running the same pattern 5 yards in front of him. Then throw it to the FB/TE and have some LB take his legs out and injure him, like what happened to Moore and Gordon, and almost to Fournette.

BH6 looked FANTASTIC the first half of our first game against Miss St last year, then we took our foot off the gas pedal. He will be fine and light it up!

FWIW, which is nothing.... I had a DREAM, last night. LSU vs. badgers, first game of the year. The only thing I remember about the dream is; I picked up in the dream in the second quarter, LSU had the ball and was driving. Tigers were already up 29-0. And the offense... spread. I remember 2 plays... and Harris was slinging that shite all over the place. It was glorious. When I zoned out of that dream, Harris had just thrown an incompletion on a 15 or 20 yard slant route to chi. That would have put us around the Wisc. 10 yard line. Again, just a dumbass dream....but man, it was wicked awesome! There was even commentary from the announcers raving about how this was a completely different LSU offense.

Any way, I'm just ready for Saturday. That is all...

No, if we are ultra conservative that means Les Miles is still running the offense. I don't know how you could be more clear cut than that.
