OR-

GTFO with your logic and smart answers.

I understand what complicated the rescue is that the rescued guys were husky.

Ah, still grain elevators are not very regulated at all.

They aren't but they should be.... I didn't even work at one and I had to deal with that shite

We worked about a mile away from a grain elevator on the river and where rev the wind would blow in the right direction, it would engulf our refinery with fine fine grain dust... It choked me so bad I couldn't breathe... I missed a shite ton of work due to it but according to the labor board, there's nothing they can do to prevent the grain dust

Wouldn't it be simple to walk around with a stick that has paddles on each end. If you fall, grab the stick and the paddles on each end keep you from going under. Like carrying a stick so you don't fall through the ice on a frozen over lake

According to the safety video that came with our grain bins, you are suppose to wear a harness and teether and have someone paying attention to pull your arse out, but 99.9% of the time ppl don't take the time to put on the harness (or the mask that is suppose to protect your lungs).

When I was in high school I worked at a grain elevator in Crowley. I had to level bins a few times and was never explained that could
was not an issue upon filling the bins, the voids appear when grain is taken from below/removed from the bin. Now if they put you in there after they started removing grain they must not have liked you.

Only similar thing I could find would be a Reperfusion Injury. Is that what you're describing here?

pretty fluid so I'd imagine it would be similar to water pressure. Then maybe a condition similar to the bends could occur like with divers from rapid decompression.

Of all the stupid shite I've read on here, this may take the cake.

OSHA can have all the words they want. You don't level the rice and it burns and you can't sell it.

Depends on the price and how much is in the bin. We have bins that hold 55k barrels. Multiply that x $25 per barrel or so and it can be a substantial amount.

And I should say when you level bins the augers aren't on. Pretty sure augers are used in putting the rice into the trucks for shipping.

Also husband sometimes uses a respirator but it's so dang bit in it. Our boys are somewhat allergic to the grain dust and have problems at times. The new higher yielding varieties tend to have more dust just FYI.

Prayers go out to these guys. What kind of grain was it? With elevated temperatures and quality of grain its gotta be tough. Were they on fresh air or respirators? If the grain was wet/green, the gases could be brutal.

I worked grain elevators and they are sketchy as shite. Some silos that operate on a belt system require u to climb up a carpenters latter, un-bolt a manway on the bottom cone, climb inside and close the man way behind you, knock down all the grain that is stuck to the walls or hung on the sides. Once it comes free, it will bury the door and you in 6 foot of grain you, and it sucks. Only thing that saves you is that your able to keep the grain flowing out the gate to the belt. Surprised more people arent lost in this line of work.
