ESPN Says Miles Has Done This Before

The ESPN guys say this is the same kind of stuff Miles pulled on Oklahoma State when he left there to take the LSU job. What the hell are they talking about??
I remember a little of the coach speak when he was considering LSU while at Oklahoma State but nothing like this, if he is in fact lying.

Les was talking to Skip on his cellphone at halftime of the Alamo Bowl. Poke fans were not happy with the way he left. They are runts though, so I'd ignore them.

Leaving OSU for LSU is a gigantic step up in coaching opportunities.
Leaving LSU for UMich is a sideways or downward step in coaching opportunities.
Lying about staying at OSU is likely standard protocol for any upwardly mobile coach. Lying about staying at LSU is just dumb.

He met with LSU officials on the eve of his team's bowl game against none other than Ohio State.

LSU asked OSU for permission to talk to Miles, they declined and that pissed Miles off. So Miles went around them and talked to LSU on his own and that pissed OSU off.
eta: but T.Boone Pickens didnt like Miles (allegedly) so they didnt try very hard to keep him.

ESPN is just stirring the pot in a down time. And can use the Detroit Free Press as a scapegoat if it gets ugly.

he also signed a contract extension a few days before he became our head coach. he left for LSU without even informing his team he was leaving. he also led lsu to a SEC title and birth in the BCSNCG. He can do whatever he wants. Just win the MNC baby.

He signed a contract extension apparently within the month before he took the LSU position, but at the time he signed, it is unlikely that he knew that LSU would be looking for a new coach. He wasn't even on the radar in news reports until Dec. 27, although he was certainly among the names first mentioned for the job. He didn't tell the team he was leaving because he didn't know until Jan 1 or 2 (after the bowl game) that he was going to be leaving (since LSU didn't make an offer until Jan. 1 or 2). He flew to BR on Jan. 2 and the announcement was made on Jan. 3. When would he have informed his team?

Mike Gundy would not allow him to speak to his team when he returned after accepting the LSU position, as I recall.

I wish Miles and LSU would sue ESPN, if for nothing else to embarass them for the horrid reporting tactics.

i've seen people posting that his statements were the same both times and it is simply not true. i've gone back and read miles' exact quotes and they were no where even close to the things he's said about the michigan job. back then, he used coachspeak to deflect the questions and say he was only worried about OSU's bowl game, he never directly affirmed or denied anything. he has said time and again that he is not going to michigan, he is not a candidate in their coaching search, and he will be the coach at lsu next season. his reactions each time are in no way similar and i have no idea why people keep saying that bullshite.

it's not a step down, but it sure isn't a step up. Michigan is like Norte Dame sort of they won't let the success of 1921-1940. time to get over things that happened 60 yrs ago.

I agree Michigan Man. There is a stronger argument that it's a slight step up. I think LSU has only recently inched its way into the upper tier of coaching positions. Michigan is firmly in that upper tier along with Texas, USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ala...Ala...Ala...shite I can't say it but you know who I mean.

Thanks, but I wasn't dissing LSU. I just was saying it wasn't a step down. Recruiting is still good but the players have under achieve with this coaching staff. If the right coach gets in they will be right there every year.
