Former LSU quarterback Rohan Davey has blunt words to say about his alma mater.

Speaking with Matt Moscona of Gridiron Now, Davey offered an assessment of the Tigers that was as soft as a brick to the jaw.

“The blueprint is easy, man. The blueprint to stop LSU is easy,” he said. “It’s very easy because all teams are going to do is load the box, stop Leonard [Fournette] and then they’re going to dare the young quarterback that’s not really young anymore, but the unproven quarterback to prove it to them. It’s the blueprint.”

There’s not much to argue with here. Plenty of voices have called for LSU quarterback Brandon Harris to do more this season after he showed inconsistency during the Tigers’ 9-3 campaign last year.

Harris finished with 2,165 yards passing. But he struggled in big moments late in the season as part of a stretch when LSU lost three consecutive games to Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss. Fournette proved that he can’t carry the Tigers alone to the top of the SEC West.

Davey had more to say about Harris to Gridiron Now:

“They need him to understand that the position consists of you moving the football. He needs to be a point guard with this team, and when the time presents itself later on in the season when you’re playing against top competition, when they’re loading the box to stop Leonard, that’s when you have to perform and that’s when the guys around you, the receivers, the tight ends, that’s when it’s time to perform,” he said. “It’s not time to perform against Appalachian State and the teams at the beginning of the season. That’s not when you want to be prepared in the passing game to turn it on.”

Harris enters the season confident. Remember, he said in June that, “I feel like I have the best arm in college football, the best team in college football.”

Between that comment and others’ expectations for him, Harris should have his work cut out for him this fall.

Davey is right. That's exactly what teams will do.

Damn. Rohan was one of my favorite QBs ever at LSU, maybe he should have just said this over the dinner table with friends.

Ro is right, but Ro didn't exactly light things up in his second season at LSU.

In reality after a redshirt year and three years playing Ro had just 1068 yards passing, and 11 TDs.

It's easier said than done.

Rohan also had Josh Reed, the WR version of Kevin Faulk of that time. I'm not saying Dupree isn't a really good WR, but Reed could catch anything at any time, especially when it mattered!

He's absolutely correct.

That's why we lost to Alabama by 14, Arkansas by 17, and Ole Miss by 21 last year. Think about it, we weren't even competitive against three of our divisional opponents last season. Completely outclassed and dominated on the field.

Gee, whatever gave Ro this idea? Last year, perhaps?

Isn't that the same game plan that is employed against ANY team that has a great running back and a less-than-great QB?

If a team has a great QB and a great RB, then you start talking about ball control offense and hoping that your D can make a play.

Football is so overanalyzed. Be bigger, be stronger, be faster. Win.

Why is this being viewed as breaking news. All he is saying is what worked last year against LSU will be tried again and if Harris hasn't improved it will work again.

It was so apparent Harris didn't get the reps he should have early on in the season. He should have been throwing it 20-25x a game during blowouts, and the only time that happened was South Carolina. I don't care what you do, you figure out a way to work it into the system over time. You can play to win by running the ball, sure, but if you don't have the balance that comes with reps, you are setting yourself up for a disaster by November.

If Miles plan is to run with LF in a predictable manner like last season LSU will lose 3 and the games are not fun to watch.

Ro's best season we lost three games by a total of 48 points.
Tenn by 8
Florida by 29 at home
Ole Miss by 11 at home

Ro was a senior and to his credit went on to win the West with a 5-3 record and then the SEC with him watching Mauck besting Tenn in s stunner.

In all fairness Harris should be just in time just as Ro was.

Who said it was, just a former player confirming what we all know.
