I watched the film on Netflix last night about the games last year. The head guy noted that Murph isn't that bad of a workout...in the gym...but when you throw it in the middle of the games, against the best in the world, it's different. People were being dragged into deep water with the elite of the elite. They went way too fast, and thus almost died. A lot of the top people didn't complain, they just said it was abnormally hot that day.
This is the biggest thing with an event like Murph. When I do it, I have to take my time (to an extent) with the Cindy portion. I do a round (5 pullups 10 pushups 15 squats) every minute on the minute for the first 10 minutes. Each round usually takes me 40 seconds so I have 20 seconds after to rest and catch my breath before the next round. Then once I hit ten rounds (10 minutes into the Cindy portion), I go unbroken, one round after the other.
I'm sure if I was in the Games, though, I'd go unbroken from the start and die.

Technically, yes I believe you are and its how the games are done. Makes it much harder.
O I imagine it makes it incredibly more difficult.
The final run is already tough enough after all the squats, and that's after partitioning them up. For the first couple yards you have that jello feel in your legs similar to the transition from bike to run (for any triathletes), it's brutal.
Doing that transition after 300 squats? Frick that.

yea at the games they have to go in order. The fastest guy did it in 38min. there was a 55 min time cap, i think a few didnt even finish. id have to look.
i understand some people think they are good at pullups and pushups, but it is a different monster when you have to do it all in order. the squats, which are easiest on paper, become the hardest part imo.

O no doubt. As said, I can just nudge under 40 mins on a good day. This was doing it broken up (5-10-15) and the pullups, pushups, and squats were done inside with the running obviously being outdoors. This was also done in Chicago where it's never overly hot.
Doing the entire thing outdoors and also ending it with 300 squats before the last run? That would absolutely change things, and yes the squats would become by far the hardest thing (and that's before we talk about following all those squats with the mile run).

According to Crossfit.com you are allowed to partition it like you mentioned, I do it that way too. But the games is a different animal and they had to run it straight through as mentioned before. Just like I said in the OP, Castro is an a**hole! Haha!

Considering the volume they do at the Games, it's pretty irresponsible to make Murph an event. It should be a qualifier or something, but to put it in the middle of the games is ridiculous, as evidenced by last year. It nearly killed some of those people
All of that plus Murph is not entertaining.
Castro sucks.

crossculters.
Now you should realize you are an a-hole. Not one person indicated they could lift or sprint like an Olympian.
Of course you should have realized that a long time ago.

Let's see....I trained under both Coach Henry and Coach Hatch, so my hard on is for real coaches of real sports who train real athletes.
crossculters are a bunch of exercise idiots who like to compete in exercises not designed to do in unfit ways. Brilliant.

Hence why the military has adopted Crossfit as their regime and their lives depend on that type of exercise! Lol!
