CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen created by Greg Glassman[1] and is a registered trademark of CrossFit, Inc.[2] which was founded by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai[3] in 2000.[4][5] Promoted as both a physical exercise philosophy and also as a competitive fitness sport, CrossFit workouts incorporate elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises. It is practiced by members of over 13,000[6] affiliated gyms,[7] roughly half of which are located in the United States,[8] and by individuals who complete daily workouts (otherwise known as "WODs" or "workouts of the day").[9][10]
Idiot.
ETA: I see you edited your post... yes there are roughly the same number of Crossfit gyms worldwide as there are Starbucks in the USA.

Except the article doesn't say that either
It says that there are more crossfit gyms worldwide than there are Starbucks in the US
Yay?

Coach Hatch
Does he train real athletes, or just weight lifters? Last I checked, he was a power lifting coach. The irony of someone using power lifting to make fun of Cross fit is thick.

Damn it's testy in here.

Crossfitters are a pretty defensive bunch.

Let's see.....he has coached Olypmic weighlifters and a leading authority on olympic weightlifting worldwide, which has been adopted by track &field athletes, football teams, baseball teams, etc.
And Coach Hatch has been a consultant of a few teams and many strength coaches all over.
And a number of his lifters who trained under him were pro athletes, so yes using Coach Hatch to make fun of crossculters is very fit....get my meaning?

My bad, thanks.
Point remains, Taurus is a fricking idiot for bashing crossfitters as athletes and then using an Olympic lifting coach as an example of one who deals with "real" athletes. It's just laughable.

Someone should tell Moffitt that Olympic lifts shouldn't be used for athletic training

They lift heavy things. They can't pole vault or probably run a mile though.
Yet you make fun of crossfit. Again, it's pretty ironic.

To be clear I think the Murph (no vest) looks like a fun workout. Might not be practical for most people as I don't know maybe people who are not at an elite fitness level who can knock out 100 pullups, even spread out, but still. Also I don't get the point of the weighted vest (well I do, to make it harder). We used vest all the time but only for drills to build explosiveness and power. I've been around many elite level (national competitors) track athletes, I've never seen a mid-distance runner train for longer than a short sprint with a vest.
My only issue with this thread, from my background, the though that elite track athletes wouldn't be great a crossfit if they trained for it and the poster than said he didn't think the world record holder decathlete could deadlift 315 lbs.

That's not the point. I am not making claims that there is no value in "cross" training. In fact, that's the whole point that Taurus refuses to admit.
Crossfit combines these types of lifts into a competition that also includes other disciplnes. Yet, somehow, these guys are all a joke and a cult.

I agree. Unless you're doing explosive moves like plyo pushups or eccentric moves (like eccentric pullups), then the weighted vest really doesn't do that much.

Yep, competitive track athletes do a ton of Olympic lifting these days.

Pole vaulters, decathletes, sprinters have been doing Olympic lifts for YEARS, DECADES. They can run miles and miles.
They are Pro athletes. Jeebus.
Football players have trained under Hatch. Baseball, Basketball, etc.

So, they combine their sport specific skills training with endurance and Olympic lifts huh? Interesting.

The purpose of vests are to pay homage to the military & mirror the gear they have to carry, I'm pretty sure. Dont quote me

Oh. That's pretty cool. Is it true each workout is named after a fallen service member?
