What would you said is the average non-games competitor time for this, with and without the weighted vest?

the average joe crossfitter with no vest and partitioned prob 1hr to 1:10 min

Unpartioned and with a vest, they'd prob push an hour & a half

I think the best guy at my gym came in around 48 min. With vest & doing the workout in order

That said, I would imagine every national level decathlete or heptathlete would wreck crossfit if they ever really trained for it.

No they wouldn't. It takes years to gain the strength to be competitive with stronger athletes. Just because they are good athletes doesn't mean theyre strong. They would crush the rowing and swimming events, but they would get dusted in any events having to do with strength like Murph, clean and jerk ladder, fireman's carry, etc.

Event 5 from last year for example - Heavy DT
5 rounds of:
12 deadlifts
9 cleans
6 push jerks

There is way more barbell training in crossfit vs athletic training. Decathletes wouldn't be able to take advantage of their athleticism.

Eh, its a fun discussion to be sure and I get and somewhat agree with your point. But to argue national level decathletes and heptathletes don't have strength base to compete at the highest level crossfit is wrong.

Yes, maybe some of the gymnastics stuff they would struggle. But remember these guys and gals also throw the shot, discus, and javelin, and the men pole vault. Trust me, anyone who can pole vault over 16 feet has enough base strength to do most lifts very well.

Also, this is a tough comparison but I will make it. If, If, If, Ashton Eaton had some experience with all of the Olympic Lifts required in Crossfit competition, he could probably go into the games and win without any prep. Now, thats a little unfair I know, Eaton might be the best athlete I've ever seen!

He wouldn't even place man. And what do you mean by experience? 3-5 years of hardcore Olympic lifting training? He's 6'1 and 185 lbs. He doesn't have the mass to even make it through a crossfit games. I promise you that.

Here's event 8 from last year. LINK You think Eaton would be capable of flipping a 560 lb pig end over end for 100 ft, then rope climbs, then 100 ft handstand walk? Do you think Eaton even has a 315 lb deadlift right now?

This is what makes Crossfit. Being a well rounded athlete and not superior at one thing. Dmitri Klokov could come in and dominate the olympic lifting but he would be wrecked in an event like murph or the paddle surfing event they had last year.

It's so difficult to have that right balance between fast, strong and having endurance. That's why Crossfit is so enjoyable bc you're always doing something to make yourself better physically and mentally.

I gotta run in a few but maybe I'm mis-informed a bit, I though the competition weights are based on percentage of body-weight? That said how big are the guys that win this thing, 6-1, 185 (I think he is closer to 195 most of year) isn't exactly small? Based on your comment it would appear that the CF games are just a glorified weightlifting competition?

Also, I was in part going off the Murph workout that was posted. Hopefully we can agree a guy like Eaton would kill that event?

Hmmm....it's interesting to point out that one would need to be fit across a lot of fitness sports to compete in the games.

If only they could come up with a decent name to advertise this so idiots could understand....

That sounds about right.

I'm on the taller side at 6'2 and I feel like shorter people benefit more from a lot of the workouts. You see a lot of 5'8-5'10 guys that are really good.

Oh and this, I'm not sure if you meant this literally. You must not realize how strong elite track athletes are.

Here is the type of event that Eaton would have to absolutely crush everyone in by a very wide margin because it's a combo run/lifting event.
Event 11 - Midline madness -
6 rounds of
400 meter run up stadiums into a
380 lb 50ft yoke walk

I seriously doubt Eaton could even get the yoke up, much less move it 50 ft in between sets of 400 meter stadium runs.

I break it up into essentially Cindy. I've never seen anyone at the gym I used to do it at do it any other way.

Without the vest on I can break 30 mins. With the vest on I can just barely rbeak 40 mins.

They are just different types of athletes man. Eaton wouldn't stand a chance, the same way that Froning wouldn't stand a chance in a decathlon.

And to balance this post out...

What do you squat? By the time the squats come around in the workout it is ruining guys with 450lb+ back squats

Are you technically required to do 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and then 300 squats for a true Murph? I've never had anyone tell me to do it that way. We were always allowed to break it up however we wanted.

Doing 300 squats and then running a mile with the vest on would be absolutely brutal. The run at the end is already the worst, and I've always broken it up.

technically, yes I believe you are and its how the games are done. Makes it much harder. the other way is how most gyms I have seen(im a non Cfer) do it.
