Speaking of restaurants that may or may not be pretentious...

Went to a place in Atlanta called Antico.
It's a pizza restaurant, and let me start by saying that the pizza is very good AND you are allowed to bring your own beer and wine.
However, the menu is in Italian and they list the prices in dollars and Euros. If I brought Euros in there, the counter people wouldn't even know what they were, and despite the menu being in Italian, they don't speak it, and it was difficult to even know what you are ordering.
Once you order, the tables are first come first serve. Picture a completely packed McDonalds or the bar at Chimes where you hover to try and get a table/seat.
The place is making money to be sure and good for them, but damn, get over yourselves and make an English menu and some sort of order for people to sit.
All of this, and I'd go back for the pie. And did I mention you can bring your own beer and wine.

Like the pizza, but hate the seating arrangements. There is a place in Decatur called Sapori di Napoli that I would rather go to for similar pizza.

The Euro thing is just silly.
RE: menu in another language, eh, no big deal. Just put a number next to each item so the diner & server can understand each other, as is used on so many ethnic restaurant menus. I'd rather see the "real" (native tongue) name of a dish, rather than a terrible translation or (worse) a made up English name.
This reminds me of the time I went to a Vietnamese restaurant on the via Guilia in Rome. Menu was in Italian, I couldn't understand heads or tails of the vague descriptions. The server saw my consternation, flipped over the menu, and voila, there was the menu in Vietnamese. I happily ordered my banh hoi thit nuong & we had a good laugh about it.

This is the only answer. Pay in Euros.

None of those servers speak a word of Italian.

You are so predictable.

Pizza is some of the best I've had, but I completely agree with your sentiments.
I just usually get it to go from the one in Avalon by my house now.
There are a lot of good pizza places in Alpharetta area. Thank you to all the northern imigrants

Went to Ammazza on Edgewood the other night. It's every bit as good as Antico. Decent craft beer selection too.

I have been there maybe 4-5 times and never noticed any of this other than the somewhat annoying communal seating. I never went at a peak time so did not have to hover. I do really like their pizza.

I'm going to this place with a pocket fulla Euros and speaking nothing but Italian.
It's the right thing to do.

Sono completamente d'accordo.

You're complaining about an authentic ethnic restaurant using its native language on the menu... Are taquerias pretentious? What about Vietnamese restaurants?
Antico is one of the least pretentious restaurants in the city. Each menu item has an English ingredient list below the Italian name

Going to have to nicely disagree. Recognizing that it would probably aggravate me in person, reading it here it doesn't sound so bad. I like the idea of seeing the menu in the native tongue if they are true Italian recipes and seeing what it would cost there vs here isn't so bad either.
Now if the place was run by some guys from Texas faking the Italian thing, THAT would be pretentious. Assuming they are legit Italians, just fine. If you left south LA to open a Cajun place in Rome, don't tell me you wouldn't jazz it up with a bunch of Mon Cher for marketing purposes.

Seems more kitchsy than "pretentious."

Antico is not my favorite restaurant in the world, but I don't think it's pretentious. Not like we're talking tongue twisters on the menu where theyd slaughter you on your pronunciation, nor would they quote your total in euros or something idiotic like that

Great ingredients. Giovanni imports 99% of what he puts on pizza directly from Italy. He even uses bottled Aqua Panna in the dough. His pizzas are ingredient-driven and some of the best in the city.

I guess the " " and " " weren't enough to show that I was just out for a discussion. I even stated I'd go back. Of course it needs to be good for $52 for 2 pizzas and 3 bottles of water. And it was.

Perhaps there were some Italians somewhere in the place. They weren't serving or taking orders, that's for sure.
So or Up to you. You seem to like the latter.
To the rest of you, I should have used a better word. Deepest apologies.
