How the Marines new physical standards for combat jobs weed out men & women NSFW

The Marine Corps’ new training regime, meant to emphasize gender-neutral standards for combat jobs, has weeded out 40 male recruits and all but one female recruit since the standards were put in place at the beginning of the year, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.
quote:
Of the roughly 1,500 recruits vying for combat jobs between Jan. 1 and May 20, only seven of them were women. The six women and 40 men who failed were reassigned to noncombat jobs, according to the documents.

Obviously there was a lot more men than woman who tried out. So 3% of men failed and 86% of women failed. What got me is this....is this really the reqs to be a recruit? 2 fricking pull ups? 44 fricking crunches?!?! 1.5 mile run in 13 and a half mins? My 6yr old daughter can do a flexed arm hang longer than 12seconds. Good god. Or standards are low huh? frick this gender-normed BS.
quote:
To move into combat jobs, men and women alike will have to meet certain scores on what is known as the Military Occupational Specialty Classification Standard (MCS). This applies to commissioned officers and enlisted Marines hoping to enter combat jobs.
This is still really low IMO. I would see the hardest part is movement under fire which is more of a mental/physical test.
This seems to be the issue. The HESCO (or power clean) for the women.

I'm going to do this test today at the gym and see what my time is. I'm betting I can get in under 8 minutes.
Edit: I was thinking 1 mile, not 1.5. I retract my 8 minute estimate.

They have trouble finding people just to get there. They lose so many recruits to Adderall and crappy asvab scores.

Lol. And you military types try to pretend its selective.
This is embarrassing.

I'm willing to bet there are a large number of sedentary dad bods on here who would also get weeded out with e women and weak men.

Unless you're a runner you're full of shite. A mile and a half in under 8 minutes is damned strong running.

Umm, 3% of men failed and 86% of women failed.

They only want equality when it is convenient.

Those are simply the numbers you must have to qualify for combat jobs BEFORE you begin day 1 of boot camp. Honestly, those numbers are almost the same as boot camp entry in 1996, which is when I joined.
You must progress at a certain rate during boot camp and be able to reach a much higher physical fitness score before graduating.

yeah my bad I read it as 1 of the 7 failed. Even worse. 6 of the 7 did.

What a badass. Thanks for your service.

About 7.2 mph for a full mile. That'll get you under 8 minutes. You don't have to be a "runner" to hit that but you have to be somewhat regularly active...and not a lard arse.

This is the bare minimum to carry a rifle and ruck in combat. This isn't Delta Force these folks are being vying for.

^ this.
I was a recruiter from 2011-2014 and our command wouldn't even ship kids unless the doubled the standard.
Pre-accession Initial Strength test was 3 Pull-ups, 44 crunches in 2 minutes and under 13:30 mile and half.
If our kids wernt doing 6 Pull-ups, 60 crunches and under 12 minutes within 90 days they'd get discharged from the delayed entry program.

It's actually the bare minimum to ship to bootcamp.

I consider myself in decent shape but I know for a fact I couldn't do 1.5 miles in 13 min. I would imagine this would be the factor weeding out a number of the applicants.
