Haha so you're talking service schools? That is about the only thing I can gather from your incoherent post. So now only officers rate in your mind? You do realize that there's a difference between officer and enlisted, right?

He has no idea what he's talking about. He seems to think that "level of sacrifice" is determined by your method of entry into the military and completely disregards that the vast majority of fighting and "sacrifice" are borne by the enlisted ranks.

Unless you're a runner you're full of shite. A mile and a half in under 8 minutes is damned strong running.

You're 100% right. I was doing the math in my head for 1 mile, not 1.5. Still, I think sub-10 minutes is doable.

don't understand what part of "entry standards" people aren't getting. It's the only time in their military career that it's that low. It's just to see if you are in the bare minimum shape to even begin training. And even later on, with the full regular test, anyone that thinks you're just going to cruise along forever on a bare minimum score doesn't know much about the military.

Don't worry. I have been here since the beginning of this site, and I can tell you that 1/3 of the members of Tigerdroppings would fail a basic reading comprehension test, not to mention they would fail the minimum entry standards for the USMC.

Is there no requirement for push-ups in the Marines?

You're probably being generous.

Yes. I know there is a difference. The difference is that anybody with a neck tattoo can join. But only a non-trashy person can go to a military institution. Disagree?

Talk to me about the level of sacrifice for some kid that is facing no threat of combat.

What facts? Your anecdotal evidence of people joining the military to get out of trouble in the 90s, an argument I haven't even addressed, yet you have bizarrely tried to use against me? Or your opinion that only Academy grads sacrifice, is that opinion a fact?

I actually hope you're drunk or high, because if this is you stone sober...

Nope. Pull-ups are the standard for Marines although I probably did 50x more push ups than pull-ups while serving. It sucks for the taller guys and much easier for shorter guys with short stubby arms but oh well.
And for all the keyboard warriors a good pft is 3miles under ~20 mins (under 18 for max points), 20 dead hang pull-ups (no crossfit kippers) and 100 crunches under 2 mins (arms crossed against body and elbows touch hips).

I consider myself in decent shape but I know for a fact I couldn't do 1.5 miles in 13 min.

Do you define decent shape as in not morbidly obese? That's over a 8 minute mile pace, which anyone who runs semi-regularly should be able to run.

20 is a lot. I was a S&C intern at UF and there weren't many skill position guys who could hammer out 20 dead hang pull ups without cheating a bit.

You don't think being away from family for a year, missing birthdays and holidays is a sacrifice? I'm not asking you to feel pitty, I chose that life and I'm happy with it. I was well compensated and already pull retirement in my late 30s. But you are spouting nonsense all over this thread. Half of your comments don't even make logical sense.

Trick is to learn to do them with your palms forward (pull-up style) instead of palms back (chin-up style). Back muscles don't fatigue as easy as bi's. My short skinny friend could do 40 (20 both ways) with out getting off the bar.
