What's the best place to move to around NOLA?

Me and the wife (no pics) are always talking about moving to new Orleans. She is from the north shore. We don't want to move to New Orleans proper. What areas around NOLA are the best to move to. We have a child in elementary school.

Be prepared for a shock once you start pricing good homes in NOLA, old Metairie and River ridge

If you don't want to live in New Orleans proper, Old Métairie is your best bet. It is not cheap however
