Because the rather large lake was created within and adjacent to a swamp in fricking Florida.

Gator populations have seen a massive resurgence over the last 30 years partially thanks to government action. They went from endangered to protected to on the verge of even losing that distinction.

They practically will set up shop anywhere there's relatively stagnant water deep enough to submerge in, with enough pray nearby to stay fed, and enough dry-ish land in close proximity to lay eggs and nest.

How many millions of visitors have they had there before this ONE death?

It's terrible, don't get me wrong, but I'm guessing they've had more deaths by lightening on their property than alligator.

There was a reporter that had similar questioning as to why Alligators were present in a city that was built in the swamp. I'm convinced that both of you are one nugget short of a happy meal.

Your not from around here are you?

Heck Biloxi Ms has thousands of Gators inside its city limits. That is a city of around 50K people.

the whole area has gators.

why is Disney offering a family resort in the middle of a swamp?

they found 5 gators in the immediate vicinity when they looked for the boy.

Gators breed like rabbits in Florida. Can't contain them all

My parents live on a lake. Growing up we used to see many Gators basking on our back lawn. We had a screened in patio so we could observe them without them rushing us. They're pretty docile.

We have this trail down there called "shark valley" where you ride a bike around this 15 mile trail and you will be within feet of Gators that don't do shite.

The only time I've ever seen one get feisty is when we were in the water fishing. For some reason they become straight up dicks when you're in the water.

Haven't seen any back there in years though, damn suburbia killed them all.

Same reason there are snakes in the ground in Las Vegas or Sharks at Myrtle Beach...we've invaded their territory...not the other way around.

On google maps somebody did a 360 photo of about where it supposedly happened (near the edge of that brush) if anybody wanted to see the no swimming sign.

I'm sure this has been said, but it's not the gators, it's the beach.

Liberals want wild animals to be allowed to roam free from human interference.

Liberals want humans to be held accountable when wild animals are allowed to roam free.

The duality of being a dumbass folks.

One report says the boy was 10 feet on shore and another that he was in the water.

You ended your subject in a preposition. Your argument is invalid
