Finally watched Star Wars......My lord

Very underwhelming. Just a bad movie IMO.
I'm not a die hard Star Wars fan, but very much enjoy the originals. This one had so many flaws.
The good
-The visuals. I thought the movie looked good from a visual standpoint.
-The girl. I thought she had potential. She can be a good character going forward.
The Bad
-The plot. Did they just rehash the original? Were they trying to make it obvious? All the way till the last scene in blowing up the new Death Star (or whatever it was called).
-The black dude. As good as I thought the girl was, he provided nothing though. It got to a point where I just didn't want him to speak anymore (cue the racist remarks). His dialogue with the girl was cringe-worthy from the get-go. Too many one liners and hokey jokes.
-Harrison Ford. It's obvious he hasn't done anything in a while. His acting was just bad IMO.
The Ugly
-Princess Leia, the years have not been kind to you sweetheart . It's hard to act when your face can't show any expressions due to plastic surgery. Harrison Ford probably had a contingency before coming back that he would not have a kissing scene with her again.
-The Villain. At first you think this guy has potential. A second coming of Vader? Not exactly, but he seemed worthy.....SEEMED being the key word. My god, how they completely fricked that up. Did they think having a whiny little teenage brat as a villain would work? What a little cry baby bitch that guy was. I can't think of a worse villain in a major movie.

I mean that was the point. To show how immature he is. He's powerful as frick, but he's a crybaby with a short temper. That's what they went for.

I've actually found myself bored with it on rewatch. Ep 8 better be original or they may start losing some of the fan base.

That was the point. He is kind of a bitch. But that's what makes him interesting. He's where Anakin should have been at the end of Episode III. It worked, and he'll only continue to get stronger.

Not just with the black guy, the movie was full of them. Still liked the movie but this element was written for the modern day twentysomething and younger....sadly. Us Ep. 4,5,6 junkies were spoiled.

You got that right, he should have left his face covered.

That's exactly what I was thinking about the OP when reading this.

Thanks for final delivering the one true enlightening review. All the hundreds of others on this board didn't do it for me.

I take pride in being your 50th downvote.

quote:I can understand some of the gripes about the plot; it wasn't wholly original. However, what they did was intentional. It brought people back to the "Star Wars" they knew and loved. Made the fans feel comfortable. But it was different enough to not be a complete rehash. It is undeniable that this FELT like a "Star Wars" movie compared to those prequel films. And as far as Death Stars go, yeah, it's kind of lame...but let's not act like the military doesn't keep making the same weapons just making them bigger and more modern. I mean, how boring is it that they still use planes and aircraft carriers? Don't they know we saw all of that back in the '40s...

Boyega definitely took a little getting used to, but he did improve as the film went on. Didn't mind him nearly as much on my second viewing.
Ford was probably done with this character back in 1983. Didn't he want to be killed off back then? He got better at being Han as the movie went on.

The gripe about Kylo Ren just makes me think you're a little stupid and need things to be painted for you in black and white.

I'm not a big Star Wars guy either. I did enjoy the original movies, but I was never real big into it like Batman, Superman, or most comic movies.
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought the movie did a great job feeding nostalgia. Although I was never a giant Star Wars fan, everyone remembers Han Solo, Chewy, and the Mill Falcon. They did a great job incorporating those things into a new story, IMO. It had very funny moments balanced with well needed seriousness. I felt like they gave us an introduction to some very deep new characters.
As far as it having a similar plot to the original? OK. That's your opinion. There were some similarities, but for me, the movie was different enough. It would make sense for me that the bad guys would have a similar goal now as they had in the past.
The important things to me for this movie were 1)It had to be fun. We needed fun new characters who have good chemistry and great dialogue. They had to work well together on screen. Like the original characters. Check 2)Great visuals and score. Check. 3) Nostalgia feels. Check. I think that they not only got these things right, but fricking nailed it. So, I enjoyed it immensely for those reasons.
I will say that I as well was not impressed and disappointed by the villain. I understand and I think they achieved what they were going for. They wanted a dorky looking guy who has an inferiority complex. I think it was their way to try to establish something new and different from the iconic Darth Vader. They could have achieved this with someone who just works better on screen in that setting. I just feel they went a little too far with it. From the guy they cast to his WAY overreacting outburst. I just think they could have cast better and toned him down a little. At first I thought I had a problem with Ren taking his mask off too early in the movie, then I realized I just had a problem with who they cast overall. I think it could have worked better overall with someone different. I just wasn't a fan of the final product of Kylo Ren.

I always see these threads and thank god I'm not a fricking cinema snob. Why would you go into a movie knowing you will nitpick? Sounds miserable.

I hated the femcentric plot, but that's the world we live in.

That is the one thing I agree with you on, it was tough to watch her scenes.

I didn't like it. Too corny and although I appreciate how they stayed true to the original with fast scene changes, it only made me not like it.

ITs not perfect for sure, but it is at the very least an enjoyable move IMO.
But i swear if they built one more fricking death star I am done.

I upvoted even though I enjoyed the movie.
It was so bad.
He's the pajama boy of villains.
