Omer Asik "wins" the Shawn Bradley Award

Joke award that goes to the big man that has the highest percentage of his own shots blocked.

Omer Asik is something special. This season, he had 19.5 percent of his shot attempts blocked. The next closest qualified big man was Alex Len, at 18.0 percent. This season marks the third consecutive time Asik has won this award, and his fourth time overall. In terms of being big, and having your shots turned away at the basket, he is really without peer in today’s NBA. However, we may be in the twilight years of his dynasty. Asik played just over a thousand minutes this season, after playing nearly 2000 the season before. He looked increasingly out of place, offensively and defensively, for the New Orleans Pelicans this season and it’s easy to see his role shrinking even further in the future. Asik is 29-years old and moving out of his prime. Who knows how many years he has left in the NBA? What we do know is that the man is a treasure, and he should absolutely be celebrated while we still have the chance to watch him appear in other player’s highlight reels.

its really a feat that he was able to grab enough balls with his hands to even get off enough shot attempts to win this award.

I remember thinking houston was making a mistake not playing him.
Good times.....

I always imagine him having frying pans duct-taped to his hands and lead blocks attached to his shoes. He can't catch and he's got a 1 inch vertical leap. It really is amazing.
Great re-signing by Derps.

That contract we handed him was a joke

We'd love to bring him back to CC if you guys wanna try to work something out.

Sure. Can you absorb his salary? What kind of expiring contracts do you have? I'll throw in a 2nd round pick or two to get rid of him.

At one point Houston was asking the Bobcats for TWO firsts, and the right to swap firsts in a third draft...
He really has regressed to the production levels he had as a Bull...
Whoever lit the fire under his arse in Houston needs to be brought in to give a pep talk or something..

I got kicked off of Pelicans report for bashing this guy harshly when everybody else thought it was a great pick up. It's pretty hard to get kicked off tiger droppings but I bashed him very harshly here as well and got much criticism for that as well.
It's finally good to know that people here understand what I meant and how much of a liability he is. Just go back and look at some of my posts and comments. I mean, people were BASHING me and Peliclown because we were the only ones who saw the same thing.
This isn't a "I told you so" post, but I'm glad I'm not the only one anymore who thinks Asik is a worthless overpaid clown. Never been more critical of a player before. If he showed a little passion and emotion I would be ok with him. He literally shows none. He pouts when he's not in the game and has this childish frown on his face. Can't wait until his contract expires in 3 years.
I don't want to give up an asset just to dump him, would rather just not play him.

you would spit the hate after a bad game, he follows up with 2-3 good games and go completely MIA.
He's not good offensively, everyone agreed.
He was good defensively, everyone except you could agree.
He got overpaid for what he did this year, everyone will agree.
issue is, we're stuck with him due to demps and his health is in question. when he's healthy (look post-jan) he plays well, but like everyone else on this damned team he's not consistently healthy

He was tied with Jackson Vroman for my least favorite NOLA NBAer ever, but then Jackson died and I found out Omer bows to Mecca five times a day and that sealed it.

Oh so his play on the court didn't do it, just purely xenophobic reasons? Trash his game all you want, but that stuff does not belong on here.
Also, you "found out"? You know he is from Turkey, right? Around 97% of Turks practice Islam. Great work there, detective.

What's a good game? 10 points and 10 rebounds? That was what was EXPECTED, so that's why I never congratulated him. If he had a 20-20 game or something like that THEN you have the right to call me out for going MIA, but he never did.
To say his defense was good is also very suspect. He's too slow on his feet to rotate quick enough in the paint to the help side and that was every game. He's a 6-7 mill a year center and I've stuck by that since the beginning.

He clogs the paint because of his size. Kendrick Perkins on a minimum contract played just as good or even better than Asik. Gentry was even playing him more than Asik towards the end of the season. Why would he do that when we all know Perkins won't be here next season?

Yeah. I googled it b/c I was curious about Turkey - assumed that most were Muslim but didn't realize it was 97%. I was thinking "well, he has a hot GF and he seems European / Americanized, surely he's not a practicing Muslim" but then I saw this...
I met Omer Asik last night
quote:
Omer Asik goes to the same mosque that I go to. I saw him a month ago and haven't seen him since. He gave me the "I speak no english" bit until he realized I was Muslim. He opened up to me and we chatted about religious stuff. He basically misses all of the Friday prayers because of practice or road trips.
quote:
i am! i ran into him at the masjid over a month ago. he's freakishly tall so he stands out. i had just interviewed him a few weeks before. he did not remember me. he was polite at the time. he was with a bunch of little guys. i know everyone is little next to him but they all looked like they were 5 feet tall. young guys.
Then later in that same thread the Muslim fanbois start to get in an argument b/c one is shia and one is sunni and they talked about not revealing the mosque that Omer goes to incase the other dude is crazy and has a bomb
