re: Is there any scenario where we make a coaching change after this season?
Posted by LSUhornet17 on 2/13/17 at 10:29 am to smil3432
They've been a Top 10 defensive team for most of the season at this point. The defense is not the problem. They've had a bottom 5 offense all season. If you want to point fingers, that is where you start. Blaming the defense while pointing to 1 game of an 82 game season might as well be screaming "I DON'T PAY ATTENTION, BUT I AM ANGRY!" That's a totally valid sentiment given how mediocre this mostly-healthy team now is, but at least get the deficiencies right. This team is atrocious offensively, and mostly decent defensively.

If you consider Coors Light to be beer, you can get two free "beers."

A lot of people are penciling him in ahead of Frazier on the depth chart but because Frazier and Jrue are the only guys on the team that can really run an offense, I think Galloway is the 5th guard if Buddy starts strong, maybe even 6th if Pondexter plays some SG.
With you on this 100%. Not sure if they start with this rotation but I'm guessing after the 2nd unit offense stagnates for awhile, Frazier gets into and stays in the rotation. One of only 3 guys on this entire team that can create shots for others. Starters will be fine with Jrue and AD, but the 2nd unit as most people are projecting will have a ton of problems running a half court offense. That's where I see Frazier coming in.

It prevents any municipality in the state from adding LGBT individuals to anti-discrimination statues. Essentially legalizes discrimination against these people by taking away any legal recourse for remedy.

They awarded the game before the law was passed. Immediately notified NC it would be a problem once the law was passed.
They aren't trying to dictate public policy, just saying they will not bring their events to a state with those policies (as many other big businesses did). They even gave NC a chance to reevaluate in light of their objection. Similar thing happened in Indiana.

Highly doubtful. This will be his 3rd year in the league, though he was in Vegas sitting next to Lillard at one of the games.

If Frazier is in the rotation, he can create shots. I think for that reason alone, he will be in the rotation. Not much creation coming from wings on this roster.

Most intelligent observers have really liked the fit for all of the guys, with maybe Hill being a slight overpay. When I say "intelligent," I mean the ones that are not using PPG as the sole indicator of worth.

France's front line is pretty shitty
Look again. Their starting frontcourt are both NBA players (Diaw, Lauvergne), which is more than most international teams can say.

re: So would you give Chanandler Parsons a max deal?

I probably grit my teeth and do it. If he didn't have his injury history, I really wouldn't think twice. He checks too many boxes this team needs. Perimeter defense? Check (Maybe a bit overrated here, but he'd get the job done). Play-making? Check (his career AST% is more than double that of anyone who has gotten major minutes at the 3 in the last 2 years). Floor-spacing. Check.
In a vacuum, I don't think he is worth what he ends up getting, but plugged into this team, it makes too much sense. Certainly a high-risk move because he could blow out his knee in October, but this is the type of guy they need, and there aren't many of them on the market in any given year. Unfortunately, this team isn't signing any FA without overpaying. People are going to flip out over $ no matter who gets signed. Might as well swing for the fences.

Not gonna lie, I hated your guts (as a writer) when you were the new guy at Hornets247, though some of that was you just weren't Niall or Ryan and were often arguing the other side. You've won me over since then and find myself agreeing with you more often than not. Maybe that just means I've become a jerk.

Have you ever looked at other team blogs? No joke that BSS is one of the best. TBW has some great writers. All of these guys really know their stuff, and the commitment it takes to do this is no joke. I know. I couldn't keep it up.
Also, (and I can speak with a little experience here) the vast majority of replies they get on twitter/in comments ARE uninformed. Doesn't help that guys like Fletch have a much larger audience (locally, at least) and spew stuff that makes zero sense and contribute to the relative lack of knowledge in the fan base.
That being said, guys can certainly go overboard in ridiculing questions or comments. It happens. They are human and they don't make a cent on the hours they put in. It is frustrating answering the same question about Greg Monroe 10,000 times.
However, I don't get harping on these guys. They provide tons of content for fans (no matter how many or few read) for free and do a great job of elevating the overall discussion of the team. At the end of the day, you don't have to read, follow, or listen to anyone you don't want to. You don't like them? Don't read. It's that simple. I stopped following Fletch years ago and I am a happier person for it. We're all on the same team here.

He's also much better on D than you would expect from a guy his age. To be honest, he looks more like a SF than a C to me.
Yup. Plays almost exclusively from perimeter at this stage (probably due to weight). Now as he adds weight he could move closer to the basket while retaining perimeter skills, which would be scary and why he is a top prospect. Other side of that is he could end up being averse to banging inside his whole career and never really be more than a decent passing jump-shooter.
Personally, with Dunn looking to be off the board by 6, I'm leaning towards Bender as my #2 choice. His upside is tremendous and he already possesses a skill that the team is in dire need of (passing). Shooting is much easier to find than a 7'1" guy with passing ability, and with both SG prospects having serious questions about their ceiling, I think you swing for the fences here.
re: Would we really pass on Bender if he is there?
Posted by LSUhornet17 on 6/22/16 at 7:14 pm to dj30
I think they may take him if all 3 of the guards are gone. If it gets to that point I'd much rather Bender than Brown. I think he could log significant minutes next to AD down the line with his size and versatility. Definitely a bit of a project, but Brown is really no different in that regard, and probably even more so given the lack of skill he has shown so far.
Bender is a year younger and played in a professional league against grown men. His shooting looks passable for a guy of his size and he would immediately be one of the better passers on the team (not that that is saying much on this team). He is skinny and not rebounder but brings enough tools to build on that I think he could become a rotation player sooner rather than later. Brown brings an NBA-ready body with zero NBA skills attached. Those types of guys tend to scare me off.
If I'm ranking the main guys we've been talking about I go: Dunn>Bender/Murray(toss up here)>Hield>Brown. I'm pretty sure the team will have the 3 guards ranked first, which could result in the decision above. Hopefully they emphasize talent over need.

Brown is the one guy projected to go around 6 that I really did not want, but now...
He just went from the bottom of my list straight to the top.

Oh so his play on the court didn't do it, just purely xenophobic reasons? Trash his game all you want, but that stuff does not belong on here.
Also, you "found out"? You know he is from Turkey, right? Around 97% of Turks practice Islam. Great work there, detective.

Good work here. I think Tyreke's skillset could work just fine coming off the bench and getting his a la Crawford for LAC (in a Gentry-designed O), but the question is not with his skills, it's with his head. Is he willing to play that role? Is he okay with sacrificing minutes and spotlight for a better chance of winning? I don't think we can definitely say one way or another, especially considering his injuries this year (though his numbers when he played this year were arguably better than last season in a 25 game sample). We do know that the team and he only truly flourished under a slowed-down system in which he was allowed to dominate the ball, and even then many of us were frustrated with his decision-making.
I think most people on here would agree the long term answer for this team is not simply handing the keys to Tyreke, so they need to determine if he can fit in a different role or start seriously gauging opportunities to trade him. Personally, I like when guys with unique skillsets are able to adapt and succeed playing a role and hope that Tyreke can do so here. His talent is undeniable, but the team needs to figure out what to do at both guard spots sooner rather than later.
