Ryno's cap hold is only $12 million. Even if he is willing to pay him $20, that will be done after other big deals eat up the free cap space.

Cannot go after both Fournier and SF (maybe can't even go after just Fournier) if we keep Ryno's caphold. So I think Dell's first order of business is to sort out Ryno. Then he will move on to other free agents.

Oh I'm aware. There were several stories around the Deadline that other GMs were questioning whether Demps had any authority to make any moves.

Its a shitshow, but I expect nothing less from this era of Benson management.

I'm not following. The team has roughly $21 million in cap space without Ryno's cap hold, about $9 with the cap hold in place. Let's say you renounce Ryno's rights and sign Fournier and a SF for $15 million. You now have $6 million in cap space left for Ryno.

If Ryno's cap hold is only $12 million a year, then I would have no problem resigning him. I could care less what he's making.

If there's a way to still sign two lesser paid guys like Bazemore and Crabbe, draft Hield/Dunn and still sign Ryno, that would be just fine with me. I would rather those 3 players than just Batum, who i'm not a big fan of anyway at a max salary, and who isnt' leaving Charlotte either.

I dont' know what that does money wise, but i'm sure we'd be over the cap for sure and maybe the luxury tax.

As far as Tyreke is concerned, if we draft Hield, i'd wouldn't mind keeping Reke, if it's Dunn, then I want Reke outta here asap.

Agree with all of that

Have Demps or whoever been chastened enough to see the wisdom in these more patient moves?

Sounds like he thinks that the deals have to be done at two separate times, rather than fluid. The Pels will hold onto Ryno's cap hold until they need the money for another move, IMO. They don't have to renounce it immediately.

Cap Hold =/= Cap Number like in football. Your Cap Hold is in most cases 150% of your last salary and is basically a place holder assuming you'll be back. Because of the escalation Ryno's cap hold will be way below his projected market value, so he only takes up $12 million in cap space until you sign him. If you give him 4/$80 he'll be eating $20 million of your cap space as soon as you sign him. I don't want him on the books for $20 million in 2017.

And $6M in capspace is not enough to sign Ryno. We can sign Ryno and someone in the $10-12M range or we can sign someone in the $15M range (I think this is Fournier's range) and someone in the $8-9M range.

I think we will have $22-25M in space. Basically we can sign Ryno + SF/SG or Fournier + SF, but we can't do Ryno + Fournier (or any other $15M guy). So first order of business for Dell is to see if Ryno will resign here.

My thought process is that Dell cannot go out and start pursuing/negotiating with other pricey free agents until he knows whether or not Ryno is resigning. For example Dell cannot send an offer sheet to Fournier for $15M if he wants Ryno back or promise Bazemore or someone else more than the space we have with Ryno's caphold in place.

ETA - Basically Dell needs to know if he is working with the full cap space or cap space - $12.75M before negotiating with other high priced free agents. Only way to know that is negotiating with Ryno first.

Oh, I thought you were saying he'd take care of Ryno first with a wink wink nudge nudge wait for us deal and then sign him after. So you're saying Ryno is #1 on our FA Board.

Unfortunately I think that is the first domino for Dell. I think Dell wants him back and needs to know his decision before pursuing other free agents.

I'm okay with ryno if he's not 20mil/yr and we still upgrade SF.

Fml if we don't do both

Gotcha.
Then no, I don't want anything to do with him at that much.

Where is this $21 million number coming from? Is this keeping guys like Babbitt and Gee, b/c I don't want them on the team next year.

If we pay Ryno 20 million, we will have 45ish million tied up at the PF position, 21 million tied up at PG between Jrue and Tyreke, and jackshit at SG and SF.

Ug. This roster makes no sense.

First we draft Luwawu. Then we win ship. Then 504ByrdGang becomes our GM.

As someone who likes Ryan Anderson. I hope we don't re-sign him.

Same here. Too much of a liability on defense.

No Gordon/Ryno/Cole/Babbitt
AD not All NBA
$2.9 million for #6
Gee opting in, he has a player option and ended the season injured.
Frazier and Ennis being $1.1ish million holds to keep their RFA rights instead of $500kish holds if we just resigned them for the minimum later.
