Any of you going?
Or are you staying as far away as possible?

We have kids activities and can't make it but I noticed a increase in boat traffic today when working from home.

how many boats have they been getting the last few years? I know 10 years ago this was a big deal.

I'd venture to say it is one of the Top 5 powerboat events in the country. There are boats in town from as far away as San Diego and New York. Wish I was going but I'm boat-less, and I don't think the ol kayak could handle it.

I hope more people go watch boats go fast! ill be heading fishing. It is cool to see these high dollar boats but being on a river with a bunch of drunk idiots in high speed boats is not on my things to do. catching trout is way more important.
that being said I've been before its fun but with the forecast why would you not want to be fishing.

They are fishing, just targeting the split tail species.

It kinda turned into a trash fest a few years back. Divorced females with fake everything that can't remember what they really look like with every part hanging out to draw as much cheap attention as possible for a couple quick bangs in the cabin of a few power boats. Middle age men that are also multi divorced or cheating on wife's who are riding in there boss's boat or borrowed boat who bought that one bottle of expensive drank to look legit and broke the back account to fill up that boat in hopes of banging one of the ones mentioned above. Then you got those house wife moms that are out showing there young daughters the wrong way to do things then gets pissed when they find there 16 year old giving a 50 year old man a BJ after dark while he smokes a cigar and sips on brandy. It's a trail of beer cans on the water you can follow shining with a spotlight down the tickfaw so sad how they trash the area. Yea I been over it for a while.

Bad experience there once or twice huh.

Eh, there's always a few drunk idiots in every hobby that give the others a bad reputation.
From my experience in attending these events, most of those guys live and breathe "go fast" boats and are responsible, seasoned boat drivers. Yes I'm sure there a couple drunks out there, but you probably passed more bad drivers and drunk drivers on your way to work this morning than you would on the water this weekend. I'm sure there will be a lot of drunk passengers though.
I always love how exaggerated the stereotypes are on TD. Just like all kayak fisherman are idiots because we all don't use lights, hold up the boat launch for 45 minutes, paddle right down the middle of the boat channel...especially in curves.

No doubt. Had my Fountain hit and left the scene 2 years in a row, First time was an idiot that was his first time in something bigger than a 15 ft jon boat. Second time was pretty serious and he and all the passengers went to jail and his buddy in the boat next to him as well. I had to be towed in and had serious damage. He had no insurance and we had to sue still haven't seen a dime and he has since had another DUI and is currently in jail for insurance fruad. Been a rough experience in the 8 years I went. Always something happened to ruin the experience after the first couple times I went. I'll never go back.

I mean, that's how I do it.
From what I have seen, there are a LOT of crazy boats on the water. I'm sure a lot of the guys in the high dollar boats are sober, I don't think they always make the best decisions on the water, but I think they are sober doing it. The speeds they run in the river are sometimes too high for the amount of traffic.
I think there are plenty of drunk captains behind the wheel of the countless 20 something foot Bajas. They run the river every weekend drinking and see this as just another party.
There are crashes every year, not a good weekend to be on the water, imo.

Watching those clowns in those big boats at the launch is one of my favorite things. They have zero clue how to launch and load up a boat. I especially love watching the confrontations that take place because said clowns take so long and piss people off.

This is all I did before I met my wife 6 years ago . My buddy had a 25' outlaw and we were on the river every single weekend partying. We traveled to numerous poker runs around the south. We always rotated days who got to drink and who drove the boat though.
