re: Roy King is suing LSU

what grounds could he have?
Read Roy King's legal petition. Roy King's Suit Against LSU
One of the reasons he was fired is related to 'improper' stipends/scholarships for TGBFTL members (which includes Golden Girls and Color Guard). It looks like he has all listed LSU personnel hog-tied on that one alone (sections 5-8).
Not to mention nepotism -though that charge is somewhat nebulous (section 9 and section 29).
The $50K donation allegations can easily be corraborated by the donor, if they are willing to testify (sections 10-16).
Further, there is a little bombshell regarding a "wealthy former Golden Girl" and a proposed $500K donation intended for Golden Girl scholarships that was allegedly thwarted by the School of Music that is quite intriguing and, again, can be substantiated by the donor (sections 17-20).
Roy King's summary statement buttressed by claims in preceding sections (section 28).
Then the suit doubles way down and presents arguments regarding denial of Roy King's right to due process under LSU policies, illegal reprisal under Louisiana statutes, violation of First Amendment rights, and a demand for trial by jury(sections 41 through 63).
Man, if even half of this stuff is accurate, LSU really went out of it's way to screw this guy and will pay through the fricking nose - and probably a hell of a lot more than they were trying to squeeze out of TGBFTL to begin with...

I'm only 15 pages in, but it seems like the secretary at the school of music sucks at doing her job.

I don't care for how it throws the secretary under the bus.
I think the main thrust of that side of things is that the secretary was put in a position where she could not handle the workload (working for too many people, perhaps?). Pretty sure she's still a big supporter of Roy in this whole thing (or at least was immediately before the petition was filed).

I'm all for Roy. But actually his grounds are pretty weak. This is more about airing dirty laundry than making a strong legal case
ETA: it does show how bad he was screwed over.

This is more about airing dirty laundry
That would be exposing LSU administration witch hunt buffoonery.

He made some federal claims in there, LSU can remove to federal court if they want.

Just finished reading Roy King's petition / suit.
King makes claims that seem very easy to to prove with corroborating evidence. If he proves his case, LSU is a sinking ship because the tone at the top is terrible. This would further erode the leadership's continued chicken little stance on budget issues.
If this is true - it is very sad for my alma mater.

Even if he accomplishes nothing else, he has totally exposed the School of Music leadership and their attempted money grab.
Agree with the OP's that if half of the allegations are true, the university and the leadership involved here look really really bad.

Indeed.

Thanks to all for the solid legal analysis. Without getting into any specific points already discussed, I strongly believe this will be settled out of court, like most suits are.
On a side note, when Pokey sued LSU, I said that would be settled out of court and a few insisted LSU should take that to court. I knew the school did not need that type of media coverage that would result, and of course, it was settled.
Obviously, the issues involved are different here, but it will and should certainly be settled out of court.

However, there's always the chance of an outlier.
RK might want too go to the mat to defend and proclaim his honor. Again, the predicate for that would rely upon the righteousness of his case and the strength of his personal grit.

Neck does not need to come back. We do not need to hear suck that tiger duck bitch multiple times in a game.

I have reasonable belief that it is.

I hope they do.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Roy refuses to settle just to drag these asshats through the mud in the press.

This reads like my friend described working at LSU. Academics who assume everyone is less intelligent than they are and constant power struggles and drama.
He said periodically they'd encounter a boss who had no experience or skills other than knowing someone higher up.

I agree and I suspect that she is willing to go on record in deposition. She clearly has an axe to grind as well given how she was treated over the stolen petty cash.
I was in TGBFTL a long time ago and I can tell you that the secretary is an important part of that organization. Forcing her to resign and threatening prosecution is bullshite. She should have sued them as well.
Words cannot express how disgusted I am at LSU and the School of Music. I would love to see the members of TGBFTL organize and have a public demonstration at the first home football game in 2016.

Oh without a doubt LS is in full support of Roy.

I completely agree with you.
What did Talley think would happen here? That Roy would silently walk off with his tail between his legs and not fight to defend his honor and integrity?
I read the suit last night. Pretty shady alarming stuff in there. Anyone else think this will hurt Tiger Band recruitment?
