Cause it's not like Google or any big company have launched flagships in beta before

It's like no one remembers the hilarious fails of tech companies.

Remember when Google unveiled app that scanned pictures and suggested people? And it started suggesting black people as gorillas?

Remember the initial launch of apple maps?

There's plenty of examples.

Remember when Microsoft released their AI chatbot and within moments people taught it to be a super anti-semitic, racist a-hole and they had to kill it.

Google also released an AI twitter account that basically was supposed to learn what people liked and disliked and then start tweeting out what people like. It took two days for it to just start tweeting out racist, sexist, and anti semitic shite

His point wasn't that apps don't fail. His point was that the beta test was unrealistic, and they wouldn't be allowed to release with such an incomplete test. Sure, it's a television show, but the subject was realism.

Maybe they're going from closed beta to open beta on the show

That would make more sense. Possible. Either way I'm not sweating it. This show is killing it.

It was because a hacker was systematically having USB sticks dropped in the parking lots. At some point, someone picked one up. Thought to themselves, "ohh sweet, a free USB stick.....i wonder what's on it." Then proceeded to plug it into their company laptop. Heck, not sure on the details but it may have been a datacenter employee, who plugged it into one of our servers. Caused a huge meltdown for us, entire data center had to be wiped and rebuilt from scratch.

They used this method in Mr. Robot when Darlene was helping to hack the prison. I was watching at the time thinking it was a genius idea.

The first instance of this that I've heard of is even worse. Someone at the CIA came up with the idea of testing how careful people were with security and the application of common sense.

Solution? Drop some sticks in the parking lot and see how many employees just pick it up and plug it into their secure work computers (probably with the idea of locating who it belongs to). The answer was depressing. A lot of people do this without stopping to think first.

Thumb drives and other USB devices can be reprogrammed, there's no way to tell, and when you plug them in, they can emulate a keyboard and start sending keystrokes, among other things

I watched some Kevin Mitnick keynotes recently where he did some amazing things with usb sticks reprogramming the firmware.

Kevin Mitnick is the GOAT btw

He either sold them to Laurie or he made a business deal ala marketing and commercial application with her.

Maybe Erlich parlayed the "box" and future profits from it and took a loan against it, and PP will have to put out the box, Lori would do it bc it was basically guaranteed income.

Ever since the incident I previously spoke of, my company will have USB sticks dropped in parking lots, fake spam emails, and random people attempt to tailgate you thru security checkpoints. If you suspect it's some type of scam or phishing attempt, you must report it immediately. If you fail, it gets reported to management and you take an 4 hour online security training. It also stays on your inner company resume.

I'd like to tell you it's only non-IT people who fail every year (HR, business, scientists, engineers), but I'm always surprised when the yearly report comes out how many IT personel fail every year. Blows my mind, but I understand why they continuously train us to prevent these things.

It wasn't technically an animal. I took a ziploc bag, stuffed newspaper in it, and then drew a smile on it

That is one of the funniest things to ever happen. It took less than 36 hours for the internet to turn a simple little learning algorithm into a psychotic racist.

Once AI is given birth, it'll kill everyone.
