Jian Yang's prank calls destroyed me
This is one of my favorite things about this show. In the midst of the dramatic/serious flares of conflict, they still always throw in things like Jian Yang

The "BETA" period they are calling it, would never ever happen that way IRL.
Cause it's not like Google or any big company have launched flagships in beta before
LINK
ETA: I just read the rest of your post...you are right it wouldnt have happened "that" way but they would have done a closed beta for sure.

It was because a hacker was systematically having USB sticks dropped in the parking lots. At some point, someone picked one up. Thought to themselves, "ohh sweet, a free USB stick.....i wonder what's on it." Then proceeded to plug it into their company laptop. Heck, not sure on the details but it may have been a datacenter employee, who plugged it into one of our servers. Caused a huge meltdown for us, entire data center had to be wiped and rebuilt from scratch.
They used this method in Mr. Robot when Darlene was helping to hack the prison. I was watching at the time thinking it was a genius idea.

yeah, i should expanded on that point. With most launches like this there are multiple BETAS. Each expanding the amount of users, the demographic, and to stress test the servers and system.
For Pied Piper to just print out and hand out 40 keys to their tech friends isn't realistic at all.
And your right, sometimes, despite BETAS and stress tests....a launch will still flop. Look at the video game industry, a flop at launch is pretty much the new standard.

One of the higher up IT managers ignorantly suggested we buy up a ton of superglue and put superglue in all the free USB slots in the data center.
hilarious to the rest of us, but eventually someone told him we could force a policy update across the company for every piece of equipment not to read external media via USB. this was 10+ years ago.
Disabling the ports is the only way to be sure. Thumb drives and other USB devices can be reprogrammed, there's no way to tell, and when you plug them in, they can emulate a keyboard and start sending keystrokes, among other things. I would never plug a USB device of unknown provenance into a computer I own. Conversely, I wouldn't plug any USB device I own into a computer of unknown provenance.

Unless the point is for it to fail miserably and for them to realize they should have done more testing.

Was this episode the finale?
Can we count on Hooli/End-Frame/Hooli engineers working for PP?

Erlich had sold his shares to Gavin
That would literally destroy the show for me.
Erlich would be irredeemable, Pied Piper would be unrealistically stupid, and gavin having direct interaction with Pied Piper would just be stupid.
There's no way that is what happened.
He either sold them to Laurie or he made a business deal ala marketing and commercial application with her.

It's like no one remembers the hilarious fails of tech companies.
Remember when Google unveiled app that scanned pictures and suggested people? And it started suggesting black people as gorillas?
Remember the initial launch of apple maps?
There's plenty of examples.

Remember when Microsoft released their AI chatbot and within moments people taught it to be a super anti-semitic, racist a-hole and they had to kill it.

Google also released an AI twitter account that basically was supposed to learn what people liked and disliked and then start tweeting out what people like. It took two days for it to just start tweeting out racist, sexist, and anti semitic shite

His point wasn't that apps don't fail. His point was that the beta test was unrealistic, and they wouldn't be allowed to release with such an incomplete test. Sure, it's a television show, but the subject was realism.

Maybe they're going from closed beta to open beta on the show
