People that live in Nola - is your town really that bad right now? are you in fear of getting shot or robbed every time you walk the streets?
Or is it just overreaction brought on by news like the Will Smith shooting?

No. Not at all. There are very few lifelong new Orleans residents who feel unsafe or that the city is going to shite.
Most of the bullshite like that comes from northerners who moved down here from their segregated all white neighborhoods in the north United States and they suddenly have black people and lower class people and crimes and they don't understand how to handle it.
