Watching the video, everyone is focusing on if Smith hit him from behind. There were no cars in front of Hayes, why did he short stop? That's what caused the incident.

Of course, the car Smith was operating is responsible for rear ending, by law.

But, imo, it sure seems Hayes was basically responsible for causing both hits of vehicles.

Well, except the fact this is proven false by video evidence.

Besides that, you were on a roll

I think it's a tragic situation but too many people want to ignore any facts or details to the contrary because a well-respected Saints player was killed.

I haven't commented much on this because I felt there would be more to the story when all the real details would start to come out.

Smith was flowing too close and failed to yield. Hayes could have slowed down for any number of reasons.

1) I would like to see an inspection report form the front of the Mercedes and the rear of the Hummer. It is not clear at all from the video that there was actual contact.

2) contact or not, there is no need to escalate the situation by high speed chase and violent collision, eventually leading to taking a person's life.

3) Hayes is trash.

4) apparently Smith is no angel either, although if someone slammed the rear of my vehicle intentionally, I might react similarly (although I doubt I would have fled the scene of the first incident without getting out and talking to the guy).

Would you hang around even if you had been at French Quarter Fest all day and just finished dinner with friends. It is not out of the realm of possibility that he didn't stop because he was possibly over the legal limit.

As many have pointed out, the facts, witnesses, and other videos have disproved that. But, regardless...

Who hasn't brake checked someone following too close?

I've never said he randomly stopped. I think it was more abrupt. Even the newscaster (forget who) said it was abrupt. Maybe Smith was following too close. The Hummer was (and it shows on the video) closer to the center line. This could have obstructed what's going on ahead of the Hummer.

You ever watched anchorman?

I'm still surprised that the guns haven't been labeled as assault pistols or ak47s.

Initially yes....But there was no reason for his second abrupt stop! He did that on purpose. Watch closely, he brakes again, harder

he didnt even fully stop until after the contact, did he? im not pulling it up again but it was pretty much the opposite of abrupt by my memory.
