Didn't think they would have much meat on them. Would need to be at least a few dozen.

How long does it take for birds to show up on a new feeder? I've had mine out for 3 days now with no activity. I have it near rose bushes that are typically active with small birds flying around but nothing is stopping on the feeder yet.
Also, when do hummingbirds start showing up?

I had three Prothonotary Warblers in my live oak this weekend.

Probably another month before the hummingbirds show up in any kind of numbers.

That's the first bird I killed with my BB gun when I was a kid.

My six year old got his first bird this weekend. I am so soft now that I felt bad for the bird and hoped I hadn't let him become a deviant at the same time

What's with all the down votes? I didn't realize this was the bird watchers board.
I don't care how you feel about it, that's a hell of a kill with a red rider.

Nice! Always nice to see feeders feeding something other than House Sparrows and Northern Cardinals.
Correct AOU common name is American Goldfinch, by the by.

Pretty cool little birds. I see them all over the place in the spillway

first thing I thought about seeing your pic , love this movie
Bridgekeeper: What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen golden finch* ? (*swallow removed and GF inserted for purpose of this post)
King Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European finch ?
Bridgekeeper: Huh? I don't know that.
Bridgekeeper: Auuuuuuuugh ... as he's being thrown over the Bridge of Death

Then you recalled your own murderous history???
Surely you can turn the boy into starlings, sparrows and blackbirds, about to commit depredation on your crops.

It took almost a month for my new feeders to attract birds. When they found it they showed up in big numbers. Pine Siskins and Goldfinches mostly.
I also put up 4 hummingbird feeders. They started coming on March 14. It's mostly males headed north early to claim prime territory they scouted last fall. Breeding will start soon and hummingbird numbers increase as the broods hatch and leave the nest. There are two or three broods in the south, and then the fall migration starts and the numbers really go up. You should have the biggest numbers in August/September. It starts slow but builds through the summer.

Goldfinches love something made by River Birches. When they show up here at the office, I am going to put up some Niger feeders.

Hummers are here now. Put my feeders out 2 days ago and have seen 4 today.
