Garage door opener problems

Just the other day our garage door started acting up. Now you have to hold the button down until the door is all the way shut or it will stop and go back up.
Anyone ever had this happen to theirs? Is there a reset button?

I'm going through it now, I'm all ears on this one. I'll probably just replace the damn thing though.

Your sensors brah
I have the same trouble. And can't get em fixed. I think I have a bad sensor not just an alignment problem

I had that problem awhile back..one of the sensors had a loose wire. Also make sure the sensors are aligned properly...you might have bumped one by accident while walking by.

i had this happen a few years ago. I tried the sensors and it did not work. I called overhead door and their charge to come check it out was about the same as a new one from lowes. They said over the phone it was probably a bad control board which really could not be fixed and would have to be replaced with a new unit. So I bought and installed a new unit myself.

My wife backed into our garage door, I called Doortech to come out and fix. Highly recommend them

Doortech is pretty good.
You could have something metal (shovel, hoe, kids bike, etc) too close to either sensor. I've seen this before.
Kinda coincidence that your having this problem: I'm getting electronic interference from something that is seriously limiting the range of my remote operators.

First thing to do is check the sensors. That's the easiest thing, and most common problem.

This is correct. All you holding the button does is tell the opener to bypass the sensors.

My ex's aunt didn't use her garage door for 3 years until I went over there one day and tried to open it. Evidently someone hit it when they were moving in, and they just kept it closed for the next 3 years. Adjusted the sensors, and she thought I was Bob Villa or something

How do you check the sensors and determine if aligned, good, bad?

Same thing happened to mine. Had a cob web/dust bunny draped over one of the sensors. Cleaned up the sensor with a damp paper towel and it went back to working properly.

Youtube it, but I know mine had a little light on the side. When it was getting the signal from the other sensor, it lit up and let you know it was aligned.
The door on my wife's bay of the garage does this every once in a while and our sensors are definitely aligned. There's just something screwed up with the logic in hers. You have to hold down the button on the wall and it will go down and "reset" then work fine for a few weeks. Then all of a sudden it will start acting up again. Do the fix once and you are good for a while. Too lazy to actually call someone to figure it out . Plus it's her side of the garage, so who cares.

You google that shite.

I cleaned off the sensors and they didn't look like they got knocked out of whack. I do have a wheel barrow next to the sensor on one side and a ladder next to the other side. I wonder if that is throwing it off....

I have two doors on separate buildings. I had similar problems on both, one was a loose wire and the other a bad control board.
I fixed the wire but the Garage door company fixed the control board plus greased all moving parts and coded my new cars to the door. Both now work perfect

This. Had the same problem a few years ago, turns out, my sensor was pointed across the street.
I'm sure my wife had something to do with that.

Everyone is saying sensors, but it may not be that at all. If the door is dropping all the way to the floor and then going back up, it probably isn't a sensor problem. The chain is running past the hard stop, the door believes it has hit something and then retreats back up. The stop may simply need to be adjusted.

The door goes back up as soon as I let off the button.

Has anyone mentioned the sensors yet?
