North Korea has sentenced American student Otto Frederick Warmbier to 15 years of hard labor for crimes against the state, China's official Xinhua news agency reports. In an emotional press conference last month, the 21-year-old student at the University of Virginia admitted to attempting to steal a banner with a political slogan from his hotel in the North Korean capital. It is not known whether Warmbier made the admission under duress.

What was he doing there, how could he be so naive about the place, and is he seriously gonna serve that sentence?

Can't say that I feel sorry for Otto the SJW

Most students just go to Panama City or Daytona Beach for spring break. I guess he's a fan of the beaches on the Korean Peninsula.

I don't think so. Looks like he's getting hazed

They gave him some fricked up shoes to wear to court.

They made him read a statement claiming he had been prodded to do it by the US government.

Will never understand why any American would go to that place.

This looks like a job tailor made for Ambassador Dennis Rodman

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
You wouldn't try to steal shite from Detroit. Why try that in North fricking Korea?
ETA: of course assuming he actually did what he's accused of.

It's possible he didn't do shite. He's just a negotiating pawn for North Korea.

Why was he is North Korea in the first place?. Know where you wouldn't be sentenced by North Korea to 15 years of hard labor? Anywhere but North Korea

I mean I understand this guy is paying for his extreme stupidity right now and he deserves every bit of karma coming his way right now for playing a stupid game but.....
This guy likely has family and friends that are worried as shite right now and are completely devastated seeing this as they may not see him for a decade at least outside of some major diplomatic effort to get him released.
As long as the price is low, American diplomats should make every effort they can to get him released.

His family said he liked to travel to strange places. He was part of a tour group.

Some places should be avoided. I guess he's figuring that out the hard way. A lot of people think everywhere in the world is so beautiful and awesome, and the US is garbage. They have no idea how the rest of the world works. Now he knows

Well, he knew he shouldn't go to North Korea and his sense of entitlement made him feel like he could. N.K proved him wrong.
Now American tax payer would probably have to fork over millions of dollars to get him freed while people over here are still homeless and hungry.
Thanks OTTO!
