Do you take OLB Jaylon Smith if he's there at #12

Most of the mocks have him being selected in the top 11 picks even with his injury. If he's there at #12 would you take him if you were the Saints GM?

A true wildcard in this year's first round, Smith has top-five overall ability, but due to his January knee injury, his draft stock is a mystery. There is a good chance he is still drafted top-20 overall, but the first step for that to happen is team doctors giving the front office positive feedback on how the knee is progressing post-surgery.

I have zero hesitation to do so. There's not many other players i'd take before him in entire draft.

With how deep this draft is at DT? Yes, HELL yes.

In theory, you're building a team that can send Brees off like how Denver did for Manning. Smith fits a player who may turn out to be a Lavonte David-like player in 2-3 years.

He would be the fastest non #1 pick on draft day in the history of the NFL.

With a tore ACL and LCL, Dr.James Andrews and the Good Lord would have to bless that knee...

The draft is very deep on the DL, but my first pick can't miss.

Knee injuries are so common now it seems like everyone in league has had one. I'd pick him in a heartbeat

Treadwell would be my first pick if he makes it there
If not, best defensive player available and it really doesn't matter what position although DL and CB are the two biggest needs

Pre injury he is a top 3 player in this draft.

I can't see the team taking him. I don't think they will want to wait on him, just based on what SP has been saying lately. Need immediate help.

Kipper has him going to the Bears at 11, but I'll believe this when I see it.

They've had some recent first round busts, and I think they'll want a go to contribute right away.

Given that he had the injury in January, what would be his expectation for 2016 season, if all went well w/ rehab?

Of course, and teams will be evaluating that right up to the draft. But for the sake of this thread's hypothetical I'm assuming that he will make close to a full recovery BUT will miss his first year. I believe that's the conventional wisdom right now.

I like Myles Jack more. They will have to assess where they think Smith is at, health wise. The Saints don't have the best track record of that recently. Smith is a guy that is on the easy draft list for the Saints with the first pick. Probably one of very few names that high on their board.

I probably pass if I'm the Saints. They want help now. This kid won't contribute next year and likely won't be great the following year. Every pick is a gamble, but in this case your giving up having an impact player for half of his cheap contract up front. It just seems like a bad bet.
