A Black Lives Matter activist killed himself on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse, authorities said.

MarShawn McCarrel, 23, shot himself in front of the Columbus building Monday evening, Lt. Craig Cvetan of the State Highway Patrol told the Columbus Dispatch.

“My demons won today. I'm sorry,” the activist, who recently attended the NAACP Image Awards, posted on his Facebook page about 3 p.m., just hours before his body was found near the Statehouse.

That's how you make a statement. I applaud this man and wish others would follow his lead.

He sums up the BLM movement well.

Just starved for attention.

This really is changing my thought process on race relations. Maybe a few more would change it completely.

What, exactly, is an "activist"? I notice it's seldom if ever used to describe anyone right-wing

This is bizarre, and even though BLM is a little outlandish, this story is tragic.

The record will show that you had a mental problem. You didn't do your cause any favors.

Thisa just shows that if you're patient and keep an open mind you can find common ground with any political movement.

I think that's minor compared to his brains splattered all over it.

Agreed it's high time we start a real dialogue on black-on-black violence
